This is a nice old woodie with good hills and twists. What I liked about it was that It's both an out and back and a twister. The best of both worlds in terms of woodies. Off the first hill and into a twist. It was hard to beleive that it was built in 1923 with how smooth and intense it was. However, it did seam a bit short. Don't think just because it looks so small next to Dorney's giants that it's not good. Bigger isn't always better and here is proof.
Thunderhawk was a good wooden coaster. Its certainly dwarfed because of Dorneys giants and the coaster feels out of place, but it does look good. The first halfs bunny hill and helix gave some good air time, but a strong trim brake before the finale killed any chance of air time and the train barely made it back to the station.
This was a nice little oldie. Even though the ride doesnt have many forces on the hills or turns, theres some kind of charm hidden on the ride--you just wanna ride it one more time. Its really nice and smooth for its age, and probably the best airtime on the ride is on the first camelback. Even though it isnt such a big issue, Thunderhawk doesnt seem like an appropriate name. The ride is kind of a family coaster, and the its name sounds a lot more intimidating. But I guess that doesnt matter, at least its better than "Coaster."

Anyway, this ride would be a nice ride for your little brother to start on, since it isnt too scary or intense. Just ride and see what you think as they say.
Thunderhawk was just a decent coaster in my opinion. A dwarf compared to Dorneys other coasters, Thunderhawk as of now is their only wooden coaster. I have been on Thunderhawk twice, each time with no wait. I rode once in the front and once in the back. I can say confidently that the front is significantly better than the back. The back seat was rougher and bumpier. However, the front provided a much smoother ride and a pretty tame one too. The first drop and following turns were decent and then the turnaround was very unique. After that came one heck of a powerful trim brake that absolutely wrecked Thunderhawks finale. Almost all of the rides speed was lost making the final few hills lifeless. If you ride up front you will not be disappointed by Dorneys classic coaster.
This is one of the only rollercoaster i have managed to go on because my stomach is senstive to the drops, but once the first drop is over im completely fine and i think its a pretty fun ride after it. I like the curved hills and although its pretty rough i dont mind dealing with it.
This one has all the roaring twenties woodies aspects. Airtime, nice turns, and beat-the-shit-out-of-you roughness. But would we all love them as much it wasnt for the violence?
A very surprising ride on my sole trip to Dorney. APPEARANCE-7 I just didnt care for its location or the overused name. Still looked in pretty good shape. CAPACITY-7 Above average but nothing amazing. RIDE QUALITY-9 The massive trim brake at the end is annoying, but the ride had lots of air throughout and gave a great Wooden ride. no roughness to speak of unless you are a Sally. FUN-9 H ad a great time with the people I was at the park with. RERIDE-10 Probably number 1 on my reride list since we were working the park pretty fast. OVERALL-42 AVG-8.4 I am going 8, but I could see a 9 with a reride or better capacity.
*smack* WHO?! thought it was a good idea to put trims on this ride?!
Anyway it is a great ride right up until the last bunny hill where some smart guy put a trim break, which is on like high or something because it slows the ride down to like 20-25 mph... to bad too, because then turn around and the drop are really nice, I would say sit in the first car, because there is really good ejector air there. But Im sure there is on all th seats.
I also find the bump in the track right after the first drop to have absolutely no air time, even though looking at it it looks like it would have nice floating air, but there was none that I recall.
I got some great air on this ride. I rode in the third row seat. Some of the air I all most shot out of my seat. But at the end on the bunny hills when they hit the trim brakes hurt the ride in my mind.
