Sadly one ofthe best rides at Knott's.
Ghostrider is something unusual among rollercoasters yet has siiliar resemblance to Colossus at Six Flag's Ventura County. One good factor about Ghostrider is that the wait is worth the while. It is probably the longest ride at the park and its dips, turns, and drops are breath-taking. Yet, the negative factor about this ride is that its a hellava head ache after! Because this is a wooden coaster it feels as if your being slamed around in a washing machine! Though, it is a good ride at night too and its fun if you ride with someone who screams like crazy!
Ghostrider is a cupcake in an entire bakery. With steel coasters dominating Knotts Berry Farm, Ghostrider is a nice change from the loops, corkscrews, and the insane drops that the steel coasters offer. Although its a nice change, the ride itself is decent. Not a GREAT wooden coaster, but a very nice attraction at Knotts Berry Farm.
GhostRider is one heck of a wooden coaster and the best coaster at Knotts. That being said, its an excellent coaster overall as well. From the moment the train crests the lift hill, GhostRider is an absolutely insane joyride packed with sudden and very abrupt ejector air, powerful laterals, and surprises around every turn. The whole ride is taken at a lightning-quick pace that is unmatched by almost any other coaster. The best way to describe GhostRider is aggressive. Its not rough in a bad way, but it does know how to give a wild ride that isnt uncomfortable at all.
Good wooden coaster, though it used to be a whole better. The entire wooden structure looks great, as does the station. Both the first drop and drop off the mid-course brake run gave insane ejector air and a lot of the other bunny hills gave good air as well, but the ride has gotten pretty rough over the years and at the bottom of every hill be prepared for a good beating. Still it is a wild and thrilling coaster thats really long as well.
Ive always been a roller coaster fanatic and I remember riding this for the first time when I was 11 years old back in 2001 and being so shaken up afterwards that I couldnt walk right and my dad having to help me out of the exit. This really is an amazing ride, it is a little rough though, and the rickety noise that woodies make feel like its about to break any minute but it all adds to the wow factor of the coaster. Still my favorite roller coaster on the West Coast, you can always hear the screams and the roaring from this ride from the parking lot as you walk up to the gates. Unforgettable experience. Riding it at night is even better with the rails lit up.
Date Ridden: July of 1999 (twice), July of 2006 (twice), and July of 2007 (6 times in every car imaginable) Total Rides : 10
Ghostrider has been an interesting ride for me. I rode it way back when it was first built before I got into roller coaster riding on an obsessive basis. I picked it back up twice last year and got 6 good rides on it this year so I feel that I know this coaster very well plus it is fresh on my mind. What do i think? Ghostrider is without a doubt the best woodie west of Branson Missouri. I dont really like to use the term rough....I think intense fits better. There is no doubt that you will take a beating. You will be thrown side to side...you will be thrown into the lap bar....and youll be thrown virtually all over the city of Buena Park as you weave through the structure. However, you do have to remember that you are not on a state of the art pre-fab woodie like ET or some super hyper coaster. Ghostrider is fast, intense, and includes a feature element which I think is necessary for a coaster to obtain a high score. The Voyage has the triple down, El Toro has the first drop, Thunderhead has the fly-through station and Raven has the surprise 60 foot drop in the middle of the woods. Ghostrider has the drop following the MCBR that absolutely tosses you all over the place, particularly when you are alone in the car because your girlfriend has said that she has had enough after two rides. This is as good as it gets out west for woodies. As a footnote, Knotts has supposedly done some retracking on Ghostrider over the past few years to help smooth it out a little. I noticed a difference from 06 to 07 as the ride seemed a little easier on the back this past year. I still love and always will love this ride. Ride up front or in the middle for a slower and less intense ride, ride toward the back at night for the most intense and in my opinion best ride. Its my favorite ride at Knotts.
This is one rough coaster. I give it a seven because the roughness makes for good photos.
"My neck, I cant take another ride!" Trust me you will feel this way after this ride. It is painful, rough, yet I loved it! This was my first large coaster, and it does not disappoint. In a way I prefer the roughness of this compared to say the more smooth steel rides. Upon getting into the cart I knew this was going to be great. The mini drop was a nice touch before going up the large chain lift. That lift takes a long time, the whole time the first ride I was thinking, "what did I get myself into?" My sister nearly fainted when she saw the rest of the ride, she did not know it was actually this big. The drop was great, a empty feeling inside, but I dont like the bank. The roughness there makes it feel like my neck will be dislocated! After a few semi-large drops there are much more small bumps and sharp turns to enjoy. One thing I really love about the Ghostrider is that it makes use of all its speed. After so many bumps I was wondering how friction did not slow down the beast. Very fun. At the end I was amazed and thought it was the most fun thing I ever rode. My sister was less amazed and more frightened, the ride was simply too rough and she went into a panic attack and even cried a bit. I dont know whether to be sad or laugh at this but it just goes to show that everyone feels different about different coasters! Highly recommended, enjoy the ride!
This is a top notch woodie. A must ride for coaster fans and historians.
GhostRider was obviously a great ride at one point. It has a unique and exciting layout. The layout is one of the best Ive seen. Unfortunately, its one of the roughest rides Ive ever been on. The pain does not stop. Every time you start to get into the ride, you get bashed. Cedar Fair sucks more than Six Flags when it comes to wood.
