This review is based on a 2004 ride: The ride does not have one defining big drop but many smaller drops and hills throughout, all providing good air. My favorite drop was the fifth drop (this is right after the train passes the lift hill in the opposite direction). On this drop you get great air followed by massive laterals tossing you right and left. Like any good twisting woodie this one can get rough if you ride with your hands up. The right side is more comfy than the left as you get tossed right more often and hitting the big padded side is better than hitting the shorter seat divider. The theming is great. As you enter the queue through a fake mine shaft with horseprint print in the walkway. The overhead lights in the station look like old gas lamps. The station is laid out very well to direct people to either the front or the back of the car with spacious lines for the front and back row to minimize confusion.
However, after reriding on October 2, 2006 I have to drop the rating to an 8. The ride has become very rough and it is an uncomfortable rough.
Ghostrider is unbelievable. As of now, it is the only wooden coaster in my top 10 of steel giants. This coaster is very out-of-control, something all woodies should be. The floater air on some of the hills is among the best Ive experienced. As a testament to the airtime, a family member lost his glasses (in his shirt pocket) on the crest of one of the hills! The best air in my opinion is on the first drop following the little brakes and turnaround halfway through the ride. The speed is maintained constantly throughout the whole ride. Ghostrider is relentless. The theming is also pretty good, especially entering the queue through a mineshaft. The great thing about this coaster is it never lets up and keeps you gasping til the final brakes. The one negative keeping it out of my top 5 is that it is a little rough. This seems to be why it is slipping a bit in the golden tickets as it ages. Ghostrider is a fabulous ride that should get more attention. However, if it runs very rough again it will begin to fall from its grace.
Ghostrider, the legend lives on!
woo hoo!!! i luv this coaster!!!!! dont miss it!!!!!!!!!! i went on it heaps of times!! that 1st drop is crazy!! best wooden coaster ive been on!!
Most out of control coaster ive ever been on, i love how many times the ride crosses over itself, and the head choppers are amazing.
I had a headache when I rode this, so it was unpleasent for me. diregarding that however, this is the best wooden coaster Ive ever been on, the first drop is amazing in the back seat. Still not as fun as the giant dipper at SCBB, but more intense.
fast, fun, great thrills, loved it before the scream gaurd, best ride there.
I was blessed by getting to operate this ride for a while in my stint with Knotts. If you like woodies, this is a must-ride! Itll jar the living daylights out of you (which is part of the whole woodie experience) but isnt so rough that it takes away the fun of thinking your neck is going to be filled with splinters on the next hump. A long cycle, so if only one train is running, itll be quite a wait. Dont hit it first thing in the morning. Thats what everyone does since its close to the park entrance, and thats when youll find your 2-hour long lines.
One of my favorite woodies. I loved the first drop! This ride is also pretty long and the headbanggers are great. Ride this first thing in the morning otherwise you will have a long line.
Best Wooden Rollercoaster in America if not the world. This ride is awesome especially after they put that roof enclosure on the top of it. This coaster gives you more airtime then Goliath at Magic Mountain and even the tallest coasters dont have as much airtime as this ride does
This is ride is very rough and unless you want a headache for the rest of the day i wouldnt recommend it. It is a ride you only need to ride once.
