Da-Dum...Da-da-Da-Dum...Da-da-dada-Da-da-dada-Da-Da-DA! He lurks in the water to send shivers down riders’ spines. He still is an iconic despite many other rip-offs emerging. Nothing can ever beat Jaws for an oceanic terror film. Universal must have realized this as well, transforming Jaws from the big screen to a theme park attraction with great results.
Located in a very well themed Amity section of the park, Jaws fits in flawlessly with the architecture. One of the park’s original attractions, Jaws has been renowned as a classic experience, but over the years fans have stated the effects have deteriorated and that the ride was just outdated. However, I for one greatly enjoyed this classic attraction immensely.
Unfortunately I only got one ride on Jaws, which is a shame since the wait was only about 10-15 minutes or so. Anyway, the line moves very quickly though thanks to the ride’s high capacity. I would assume that the best seats are the ends of the boat or the front of back row, but I was unfortunately assigned the middle of the boat, which made my view incredibly obstructed. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed my experience.
First and foremost, I have nothing but praise for my tour guide. He was incredibly emotional and enthusiastic, just making the attraction so much more immersive and exciting. However, I was fortunate since other tour guides seemed far less emotional and monotonous in their tours. I always appreciate employees like these who go all out to make the experiences of guests that much better.
Onto the ride itself, despite its age, Jaws still has some impressive special effects and is just an enjoyable experience from start to finish. What starts off as a leisurely tour of Amity Bay, quickly escalates into something much more serious, Jaws! After passing the carnage he caused, the tour guide bravely fends Jaws off with a barrage of grenades, which definitely are cool. Also, the boat shack scene was pretty well executed in my opinion, and this is where I got my first real glimpse of the Jaws animatronic. Despite the ride getting a rehab earlier last year, it just seemed pretty dated in my opinion, which hampers the experience a bit.
By far my favorite scene of the ride is the finale. Following an errant shot which sets a gas dock ablaze, riders have their final encounter with Jaws. The scene is very convincing with the boat rocking and Jaws soaking riders towards the end of the boat, really making the scene memorable and incredibly convincing. I won’t spoil the ending, but I will say this though, that the Jaws animatronic at the end is very lackluster in my opinion and pretty pathetic if you ask me.
Despite some flaws that hold this time-tested attraction back, Jaws is nonetheless one of the park’s best attractions and definitely a classic that I hope stays around for a long time. My experience on this was just an all-around great experience thanks to my incredible tour guide and the perfectly executed special effects. Definitely save some time for this classic while at Universal, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
I really liked the concept for this ride so I thought I would love it. The guide wasnt too into it so that just didnt help set up for a very exciting atmosphere. I dont know.....for me it was just ok.
This is an all time favorite for this theme park. I always liked the ride and the concept for it. Certainly worth seeing when you get there. I wonder when the CEO'.s of Universal Orlando will tear it down like they did with the other great attractions at this park?
It was fun. I enjoyed the lively guide and scenes. It wasn'.t really scary but a little humorous. Though I was a little freaked my first time when the shark was right next to my side. Though, it was when I was 9.
Oddly enough Ive only rode this attraction one time in my close to 15 or so visits and it was pretty good, it was the last time I went to universal/islands. In January, when I rode it was a little cold but you only get a small bit wet, so it was ok. This ride is pretty good but not "great". We got one of the craziest guides which made it really funny he really took on the part. The effects were cool like when he shot the shotgun and the water shot up, the shark dying and the oil tank part was all really cool. But one of my favorite parts was in the boat house. All in all, a rode worth riding once a visit but no more than once a visit.
Ive probably rode this ride more times than anything else in the park, and it is one of my favorites. I heard a rumour a few months ago that there was some consideration of closure however I havent heard anything else. My last ride on the attraction was very disapointing as the ride op was only enthusiastic when close to the loading and unloading area, for the rest of the ride he was quite poor in contrast to the high level of ride ops I had experienced in the past. All in all a great ride, and the fire effect is amazing, and the best part of the ride.
I thought this was a fun ride. The fire and water effects were top notch even if the shark was showing some age.
I rode this when i was young but i was very interested in sharks at the time so this ride was awesome for me. All I remember is that the shark jumped out beside the boat and i freaked out! We passed by some sinking boats too which was freaky...then we went into some harbour and some huge oil tank blew up! What a ride...i loved it.
Im a surfer so i didnt like it at all. It sorta scared me. The shark was very shake and the driver wasnt enthusiastic. Just a boring ride. I dont see why you would go on it.
The fire effect is quite intense, but the rest of the ride is quite boring. Its like watching a movie based on a book that youve read. You may not know how it will be adapted, but you know how it will end. The ride is showing its age.
