This coaster is shaky, no doubt. But it is not rough. Don't miss out on the best Racing Wooden Rollercoaster.

I last rode this on 07/27/2014. I rode on both the blue and red trains. Both tracks were smoother than I ever remember them being. The tracks feel just like the Viper's, which is known for being smooth.

My neighborhood duel track racer coaster at six flags great America has amazing potential only held back by roughness on the first third of the ride before the helix and excessive braking at the top of the helix when the train is only moving at 15 miles an hour. The Eagle starts out with both sides turning opposite ways then proceeding diagonally under the station and brake run to the lift hill. If the trains are side by side wich is a suprisingly rare occurrence is actually not the ideal match up as i explain later. The ideal match up is the red sides front car is about 5 feet from the last car of the blue side, this will result in the trains being close enough during the helix and bunny hills so the red side doesnt win all the time. By now the trains have reached the crest of the lift the 140 foot plus drop below ground as the eagle screams skyward over two low hills occasionally giving airtime.after the two bunny hops the eagle flie skyward abruptly stopped by trims, slowly regaining momentum the rides start to spiral round 540 degrees the blue track on the outer track meaning the red side if they were side by side will overtake the blue. The twin trains squeal to the bottom and hit straight track with more trim brakes which are randomly applied before the sides brake off one dips the other rises the red side has more hills than the blue. The two tracks cross over under each other and eventually rise up into the second to last brake run coming to a complete stop before a final 360 degree helix for both to rise into the final brakes.overall a fine racing coaster although the raceing aspect is void most of the time with the helix, it's still a fun sometimes airtime filled ride with good laterals on the helixes

Had this coaster been packed with drops like its first, there's no question. It would get a "4". But seeing as how the ride has one gargantuan drop and just a huge helix, this isn't exactly a non-stop thrill. Add to the fact it's bumpy and jerky. I say go backwards. It's much more fun, adds to the intensity, and overall just a better experience. It definitely adds another layer. The rides leaves a lot to be desired but what the "Eagle" does, it does well.

Perhaps I've selected this as "Don't Miss" for pure nostalgia, but this roller coaster has a phenomenal giant drop! You MUST wait in line for the first car. Any other seat is not the same ride at all. This ride used to run races, and previously had a track or two running backwards, but nowadays the lines are teensy and one track is usually the norm. I wish the races were back - you may be lucky if you go on a mid-summer Saturday where the 15 year olds all decided to show up for work that day.

As bumpy as a wooden coaster gets, half the time you feel like the trains are going to be thrown off the rails, but that is just the fun of American Eagle.

I rode it in July, and it still hurts me. I used to think that classic out and back racing coasters were really awesome, but I found this ride to be pathetic. First of all, the line is kind of shoved in there and your only in line entertainment is looking down at the new Wiggle's World. Once you finally get on and leave the station, you think that the ride will be OK. It isn't. The roughness is very similar to that of Son of Beast. The bunny hops going both ways didn't even have airtime. Maybe if Six Flags gave it a little TLC, I could bump my rating up, but as for now, The American Eagle is a painful and forceless ride. Try to avoid it unless you're one of those people who like painful wooden coasters.

This wooden coaster is a out and back racer. It was designed by Intamin/Jim Figley, Leonard Wright, and Curtis Summers. It was built in 1981. It is 127 feet tall and it has a 147 foot drop it also is 4,650 feet long. As with any mega-woodies, this jumbo racer has had many opinions going up and down like a true roller coaster. During its existence, much of the track has been replaced with steel beams on its outward run. The American Eagle is an awesome coaster thats really close to the highway and is a great sight to see. Its a must ride for any enthusiast. It is fun, rerideable, has a large capacity, and a long ride duration. It is one of my favorite wooden coasters.

Sadly they didnt race this beauty while I was there, but it still was pretty fun. I only rode the forwards side, and it gave decent air on many of the drops and was really smooth. My favorite drop was the first one.

Adds to the park, and not bad for being as old as it is. They should have left the camera on the ride. One train was also run backwards, and I think they should have left it that way. It seems pretty plain, and boring. A little bit jerky too. Doesnt do much, but most of the time the line is short, and the the ride time is pretty good.
