The King Kahuna is a flat ride. It is fast, fun, rerideable, it has a large capacity, and a long duration.
This is a hit-or-miss ride in my opinion. The ride looks good and doesnt have the bad smell like other top spins. However, the quality of the ride varies upon the program thats run. I have gotten a poor program that only flipped me twice and then Ive also gotten a program that gave lots of flips. The water effects on this one looked nice while off the ride, but they were annoying while on the ride.
I guess I was spoiled in the top-spin-category with Tomb Raider Firefall. King Kahuna had a horrendous ride program, poor theming, and the water jets shooting water up your nose did NOT help either. Im sorry, but I do not consider filthy water being blasted into your nasal cavity to be fun. I cant believe that I once complained that PKDs top spin shoot you with water. Well, I am very glad it doesnt, because this was by far the most unpleasant ride Ive ever been on
I dunno, I liked it, but it could have a better rutine. Oh well, at least the theming is good.
As a past manager of this ride, I want to set the record straight. This ride does have a mind of its own. It has a lot of variables that come into play when the programs run. Weight, positioning, program selection and operator have a lot to do with the amount of times that this ride flips. Often times the operator tries to maximize the flips, but is unable to because of the weight distribution.
This ride is a 10 only when it flips a lot. sometimes it only flips like 2wice and sometimes it flips like 12 times, you just have to catch it on a good day. This ride has a mind of its own, i (know how to work it). sometimes it flips sometimes it doesnt it just depends on how its feeling at the moment. but when it flips, this ride is amazing. i love it, its one of my favorites in the park. oh and they turn off the jets after a certain time for the people who dont like to get wet.
Awesome theming job adds to a very good flat ride! Definitely has a bit of a Hawaiian feel to it. I dunno, I flipped several times, so my only suggestion to some of the other reviewers is to go back and ride it again, because the program now certainly flips the top spin! Cool ride overall!
Well, perhaps I was lucky in having ridden this later in the season, but I thought King Kahuna was great! This was my first top spin, and when I rode it, this puppy certainly did flip/spin several times! I guess Kennywood fixed the program problem sometime after these other guys rode it. Kahuna definitely leaves you feeling a tad disoriented! I like the theming on it too, its nice without being excessive. That same comment applies to the entire Volcano Valley area, really. It was nice to see KW find a way to fit in this moderate thrill ride. Overall, an above average flat ride!
Im not gonna kill this ride but it is not very fun at all.. It doesnt even spin!! You do 3 flips and get soaked. I rode this ride when it was a walk on and had NO CLUE about the getting soaked part. LOL Oh well, it was a good laugh. The rides themeing is pretty cool.
OK, I know, it is a three, but for good reason. This is the WORST TOP SPIN EVER. Why? It doesnt run a program that actually flips it. At least not on the day I was at the park. The ride did just three inversions, and then ended. I actually boo-ed the ride, and so did some of the other riders. How can you have a top spin and not flip it. I can only hope that on my next visit the program has been changed, but, until that time, this ride gets a one from me.
PS, just to clarify, there was no one sick on the ride, and no one screaming to get off that would cause the ride to be ended early.
