It is very fast, and a pleasant view. A fun ride for the family, with that little bit of extra kick for a ferris wheel.

Every park has to have a star attraction, one that rises above everything else in the park. Typically it’s a world class coaster or a highly thrilling attraction, but rarely is it a flat or let along a Ferris wheel! Now you may be thinking either that this must be one heck of a great Ferris wheel or that York’s is one heck of a bad park. While the second assessment is mostly true, this truly is an incredible Ferris Wheel and easily the best of any I’ve been on.

Located next to the beachside entrance, this Eli Bridge Ferris Wheel towers over every other attraction in the park, sporting the typical, gray paint scheme that is generally found on Eli Bridge creations. While it is nothing special to the eye, the wheel doesn’t really need to have top-notch looks since the ride itself bails it out.

One other thing I’ve noticed about this wheel, it looks fairly run down in my opinion, and it shows. On numerous visits to York’s, the wheel has been down for maintenance and even one time the wheel stopped mid-ride, stranding riders for 2 hours or so. While I wasn’t on the wheel, I witnessed this event firsthand and I’m honestly not surprised judging by the wheel’s lackluster looks.

So you may think lines are bad, and you couldn’t be more right…for York’s Wild Kingdom. Being the incredibly popular park that it is, the typical lines are about 5-10 minutes in length, rivaling the Bumper Cars for the worst wait that can be found at the park. But it’s not because of unbearably slow loading which plagues most Ferris Wheels; instead it’s the incredibly long cycle that York’s runs on this wheel.

Once seated in my cozy, open car, this wheel blows me away time and time again. First and foremost, the views of York Beach and downtown are simply stunning and have to be witnessed to truly experience. Just the combination of the bright sunshine, crisp air, and plenty to see all work together to make for some incredible, picturesque scenes. Also, the aforementioned long, long, long cycle is instrumental in my love of this attraction. Typically most Ferris Wheels are about 3-5 minutes in length total, including the painstakingly slow loading procedure. Well, York’s redefines what a long cycle is, giving a 6-7 minute ride, not including loading. Wow!

But another element that really makes this wheel shine is its intensity. Yes you heard me right, it’s intensity. Generally you wouldn’t think of a Ferris Wheel being intense, but York’s definitely is. This small park really cranks their motor up into overdrive, as I’ve never ridden a faster Ferris Wheel anywhere! Because of this speed, there was some frightening swinging going over the top, followed by a surprising, tummy-tickling freefall sensation on the way down.

This simply is a mind-blowing attraction. Generally, I’m not the biggest Ferris Wheel fan and am passive in riding them, but I always reserve time for a few rides on my favorite Ferris wheel anywhere. Just the sheer intensity when combined with the dazzling views and unmatched cycle make for the park’s best attraction. While it lacks the fame Coney’s Wonder Wheel merits, York is home to a Ferris Wheel that under no circumstances should anyone consider passing up this incredible attraction in a visit to the park.

Very nice ride. Awesome speed, makes me miss the old Eli ferris wheel at FTusa. Great ride, nice view, it was fun.

This is likely one of the best Carnival Eli Bridge Ferris Wheels you can find. Its one of the first models even built, being 75years old. Fast, your car actually swings out a bit coming over the top of the wheel. The view is good as well given its the only place in the park you can see the ocean, downtown, and marina.
