Montu seems like its miles away from the road (heck it seems like its on the banks of the Nile ), even though it is so close, but a lot of coasters are built over gravel or whatever (BTR is a repeat offender there)

Well, the first drop curves right before the road, but after that, you forget it's there

Montu's position at BGT is great. It serves almost like a guardian to the park, towering over the front half. It's enormous sprawled out structure however is well concealed from outside the park. While on the ride you don't notice the road at all, zipping through all of the trenches and palms. Wow, that was one of my favorite coasters!

is - it's number three on my really tight top ten. The only coasters I think are better than Montu are MF and SROS (sfne).

Definitely the Myrtle Beach Pavilion's Hurricane. That ride is incredibly intense, and most people have never even heard of it. The Wilde Beast at PCW is pretty good too, and it's very unknown.

Also, it isn't underrated, but the Coney Island Cyclone is regarded as a "classic" coaster, and with that title comes the thoughts of a slow, tame, old-fashioned coaster that is relaxing and fun. I sorta expected it to be like the woodies at Kennywood, and boy was I wrong. That thing is fast, loaded with air, and the only thing that really stood out as being old fashioned was the feeling that the whole thing could collapse at any second. I totally had the wrong impression of that ride.

I agree Danny!!!

The Coney Island Cyclone is absolutely fantastic. I expected the great nostalgia and atmosphere but boy oh boy was the ride better than I expected. I never really thought that floater air on a first drop was ever significant. The Cyclone's first drop has the most ridiculous floater air I have ever experienced, and yes I have ridden SROS (sfne). It might be old, but the Cyclone sure packs some great forces and airtime.

From what it looks like, that first drop on Wildfire looks like one of the best sub-200' drops. Also, its layout is somewhat different than most B+Ms with a rare immelman for a sitdown and the vertical loop second. The theming also looks great. I'll have to get to SDC sometime soon.

I agree that Great White is one of the most underrated. It's airtime filled and it's out of control!

-Coney Island Cyclone: Although old, this is one of the best woodies out there, period. The Cyclone is not all that tall, but sure does pack a mean punch and tons of airtime.

This isn't realy underrated. with 41 reviews and a 9.27 rating its the 7th best rated ride in the state. 38th on the site.

I'll agree it's not thought of much but it's not underated.

Yankee Cannonball and Canobie Lake park is underated. it's hight and age seem to be judged regardles of the top quality ride it is. Poler coaster at Story land Glen, NH well teamed and well set on a hill hide. Excaliber, the parks and states only wood coaster. Funtown/Splashtown USA has a great CCI custom formate coaster hear that most peaple don't even know exist.

I'm trying to plan my 2005 itinerary and might make a long weekend trip up from NY and hit Canobie, Funtown/Splashtown, Palace Playland, York's and Clark's Trading Post

Storm Runner and Talon aren't underrated, you are talking about the 23rd and the 68th overall rides on this site, that doesn't seem too shabby.

And of course you are going to say Hercules, not like there is any bias there or anything

well a lot od people talk of Montu, Top Gun: Jet Coaster, Alpengeist, Great Bear, Volcano: TBC,Dueling Dragons and even Raptor or B:TR as their favorite inverts, sometimes Talon is forgotten. Boy we have a lot of good inverts to choose from.

even though it's in the 60's there are 7 other inverts ahead of it on this site

I agree. Talon has kinds been forgotten about in the shadow of the all powerfull Montu and other popular inverts. I think Talon looks great and intense

larry, once you put it like that I'll agree. I still can't wait to ride it, and I can see how it could be lost. I was suprised to see that it isn't even the best rated coaster at Dorney.

I think Blazing Fury is extremely underrated. Sure, no helix's or anything big, but take into consideration the following: Age, Setting, Legnth, Turns, Drops, and every other factor that make the ride good.
