The main reason I never really go on haunted attractions these days is because they all think that you have to be traumatized on it. They rely on dead body's popping out of torture chambers and bouncing around in electric chairs. Don't get me wrong, I love getting creeped out, but not to the point when the ride becomes unenjoyable and you just wanna get off. This ride, however, using omnimover technology, glowing animatronics with full movement, and a gothic atmosphere, creates the perfect traditional ghost train attraction.
First off, the reason it is a lot better is because instead of relying on zombies and little girl ghosts popping out, it relies on the mansion itself. It has a dark, eerie and goosebump-growing tone with a quiet, but creepy soundtrack. It is scary, of course, but it's not like most haunted houses where you want to get off. Here, you just never want to get off.
Now you could say the ride does have a scary graveyard scene in the finale, with the main song blazing through speakers and ghosts popping from behind tombstones. This is true, but here's the thing: The ghosts aren't creepy, they just have freaky, and quite honestly, goofy faces. Add that up with 3 ghosts at the end and a stretching elevator and you have of Disney's greatest attractions..... Just add the Hatbox Ghost and it will be perfected.
