Review of Jack Rabbit @ Kennywood
0 Rating Posted by: sowinski on 7/8/2006 4:00:00 PM
A simple layout with a quick turn, tunnel, some hills and the famous double dip. Its good for its age overall, but nothing spectacular. It is a good ride at night, otherwise I may have downgraded it a notch.

Oh come on dude...that insane 4 seconds of ejector air doesnt merit a better rating?!

This review may actually help you out in the long run. Itll help keep the lines down, so you can have the airtime all to yourself. Kennywood is a nice park with a great vibe, though. I dont know why Pittsburgh has such a bad reputation. I visited around Labour Day last season and I thought the city was pretty nice, although some of the signage is bad for tourists, especially along the sloped sections near the rivers.

Pittsburgh is a great city...its where I was born and I visit at least 5 times a year. Kennywood is always on the itinerary for the summer trip, so perhaps I just have a special soft-spot for these old rides. I just hate seeing these classic rides be looked down upon for not being modern and mind-blowing. The Jackrabbit was built in 1921! We have to look at these rides in their context and THEN review them. Back in 1921, this ride was nearly the equivalent of todays Kingda Kas and Millennium Forces. We have to appreciate them for what they are, and realize that even in todays frantic rush for the biggest and the baddest, the ol Jack Rabbit still dishes out its fair share of thrills. That double-dip is unlike anything else Ive ever experienced..much more thrilling than a lot of "modern thrill machines"
