Author Coasters With SO Much Potential...

I was just thinking, is there any coaster that comes to mind that has alot of potential to be good, great or excellent but isn't?

Here's a couple that come to mind:

Mean Streak- As everyone knows, the trims slow down a coaster that has the potential to be a wild, fast, great experience.

The Villain- It all comes down to the Gurstauler trains. This coaster has soooo much potential, but sadly the Gurstaulers come in and jam you in the stomach, and the seat dividers are very annoying. This coaster was rated in the top 25 woodies for 2002, but imagine how much better it could place with better trains.

Wild Thing- From what I hear, this coaster has the potential to be very good if only Cedar Fair would, just like with MS, remove the trims.

These are just a few that come to mind, any other coasters you can think of?

Wild thing is the same thing I was going to say when I saw this subject. It is a very good hyper when they have the trims on low or none at all. But when they have it on it kills the airtime at the end of the ride.

Mean Streak, for obvious reasons, is quite an uneventful ride. (It's so slow!)

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster looked so great, but the ride itself was really tame and boring after the launch and first two inversions.

Great thread topic!!! The Comet at Hersheypark could be one of the best woodies out there if it weren't for the trim brakes on the second turnaround. I'm always sad riding that coaster, because I know the end could be airtime heaven without those trims.

What about Nitro. It is a great ride just the way it is, airtime city on the hills and plenty of lats on the helix.

How about this one (I'm asking for it now), Millennium Force. I have ridden it many times now, and it just never seemed to deliver what I think it could. Sure, it's got lots of speed and height, but I've never had much airtime on it, the turns are forceless, and it just seems to have so much energy to spare coming into the brake run.

Because Nitro is a slow bore with little airtime, and no intensity except for the helix. It's tall, but it's nothing compared to B&M's other hyper, Apollo.

No airtime? You got lead in your butt, there is air on every hill. Granted, it is not intense, it is all floater air, but riding it is like floating on a cloud. Even my fat ass comes off the seat on every hill.

Either the trims were on hard that day or I just caught it on a bad day - there was ZERO airtime, anywhere. There was a hint of it on the bunny hills but it felt like a complete bore to me. Even the drop seemed weak.

Millenium force can't have to bad of trims or it wouldn't be that good of a ride.

You hit it on a bad day. I have ridden it dozens of times and have never been dissappointed. I think AC is better for air, but Nitro is far from a bad ride.

Nitro from what I heard is a really good ride with some good airtime.

Mean Streak was to slow, I mean they had breaks down the big drop.

Millenium Force I think would be better if they had bars that weren't so tight so you could have more airtime.

Iron Wolf at SFGA would be better if it weren't a standup.

I rode Mantis and wondered what it would be like without the trims on the first drop (which btw I was shocked to see). Not that its not a great ride, I'd just like to experience it unleashed.

Hyepersonic XLC has AMAZING geforces and some good airtime over the top. In fact, its launch is over such a short track that it is much more powerful than TTD's and even rivals Hulk's. However, right after it reaches top speed there are trims on the way up. Obviously they need trims or else it would go over the top way too quickly. However, wouldn't it be better to remove the trims and just have a much taller first vertical tower? The tower could be at least 30 ft. taller if they removed the trims. It's also a VERY short ride. With a fabulous launch, Hypersonic XLC could have much more.

Rivals Hulks? Hulk doesn't even accelerate that fast.

Yeah, but the upward acceleration is supposed to be pretty intense...

3r1c you have to think for a minute.

Although it doesn't accelerate that fast, Hulk's launch is sooooooo powerful, 4.5 G's to be exact. That's the most powerful in the United States. Because its upward makes it require so much more force.

Superdooperlooper had mad braking throughout the ride that killed it. The ride could have been alot better

Actually, you need to start thinking and you need to stop pulling "facts" out of your ass. Mark Woodbury, the Chief Creative Officer at Universal Studios stated on Americas Greatest Roller Coaster Thrills: The Next Generation that Hulk pulls just about 1 G on the launch, far different from the 4.5 you've been talking about.

That's far from the most powerful in the United States.

RCDB lists that the coaster pulls a maximum of 4 G's, which goes against the 4.5 G's that ben claims. However, 3r1c, right now, you're experiencing 1 G, so Hulk's launch pulls more than 1 G

The Hulks launch may not snap your head back, but you sure can feel it. Its nice but not overpowering.

Well I've heard 4.5, but thank you Swimace. 4 is a lot closer than a little above 1. I mean, you experience 1 G just sitting in your chair. That makes NO sense! If you can feel it at all its more than 1 G.

Have you ever been on Storm Runner? That launch is intense (faster acceleration than Hulk), but it's only 1.9 G's. Plus, the 4 G's don't have to be on the launch, it could be at the bottom of a loop or hill, or a curve.
