In a previeous thread, I discussed "Flying Heaven Boat G5 Dive Machine" and "Insane Speed Flying Coaster", both found at "Jansfusion Fancyworld" in Taiwan.

Yes the names are weird, but they barely scrach the surface!

My votes for craziest rollercoaster name go to "Space Salamander" @ Expoland, and "Boogie Woogie Space Coaster" @ Space World.

This is kind of along the same lines as the "Worst coaster name" topic, but it's all good.

I think Space Mountain, is a really bad name, I mean Space and a Mountain are totally two different things, Thunder Mountain makes sence and I guess so does splash mountain.

Well, there are mountains in space; They're just on the planets in space.

Space Salamander has GOT to be thee most Kick Ass coaster name ever, though.

The craziest name of all's obviously Scream! at Six Flags Magic Mountain? C'mon now. When Six Flags decided to name their B&M floorless, they gave it such a bad one, but yet, the name itself sends a message to oncoming riders about how they'll go crazy & scream off the top of their lungs. Am I right?

There's also an Intamin woodie in Japan at Tobu Zoo named Regina. Why are all these coasters with crazy names in Asia?

Big Bad John! (At Magic Springs)

I've seen my share of weird coaster names, but I can't remember many of them. Most in Japan though.

Yeah, like "Big Boom Coaster" at Nasu Highland, "Grampus Jet" at Mitsui Greenland", or "Fuwa Fuwa Osora No Dai-Bouken" and "Moonsalt Scramble"(1983-2000)at Fuji-Q Highland.

This was one of the first things I blogged about. Some of the worse names I could find were:

The Screaming Squirrel, The Atomic Coaster (in Japan) and the Rainbow Chaser at a park called Gayway. Serial Thriller's pretty cheesy. And I can't stand goofy acroynms X, XLC, XL-200 etc.

Thunder Dolphin's crazy too, but many of the Asian-named coasters make more since over there.

The only acronym I like is XLR-8, it's so lame it's good.

I could understand a name like "Thunder Dolphin" or "Atomic Coaster" at any Japanese park, just because i've gotten used to expecting strange ride names from that country. However, the "Moonsalt Scramble" is totally beyond me, I mean WTF is moonsalt?!?! And why is a rollercoaster named after it? It would be like riding "Ketchup: the ride".

A moonsault is a pro-wrestling maneuver where the wrestler does a back flip off the top rope and lands on a downed wrestler. Whether that's were they got the name, I'm not sure.

And weiner is German for Viennese, although when we hear it the first thing that usually comes to mind is something less romantic...

while i didn't know it pertained to vienna specifically, i assumed it didn't mean "hot dog" or "male sex organ" in german. niether of these common english uses make immediate sense for a coaster name.

i like this name also because it sounds awkward - a present particple modifier would never follow a noun in a proper title in english, though i suppose that's normal in german, yet both words could be english or german.

It translates to "Vienna Looper" - the ride was originally planned to open at Prater in Vienna, but never did because the locals thought it made too much noise. As the ride bounced around through the years, the name loosely stuck with it...

Atomic Coaster just gets me, b/c of the real atomic bombs dropped on Japan back in the day. Isn't that as bad as naming a coaster after 911? Both of them were tragedies where many people died.

All of those fictional oversized monsters (ie. Godzilla) and maybe even the "Thunder Dolphin" were created by the radiation. So maybe the U.S. is partly to blame for some of their weird names.
