I wish I could rate this higher, but there are too many problems with this ride. I love old Pretzel dark rides. This one has all the makings of a great old classic spook house that could bring back your childhood fears. Its location is fantastic. It's under the upper level of the boardwalk. So it sits there in all its musty, oil-burn smelling glory. It also has those creepy Pretzel click-click-click cars. It all seems like a great set up, but then once you go through, it falls flat. There is WAY too much stray light in there. Why do they keep those first set of crash doors permanently open? Every time we go on or see a video, those doors are open. There are too many stunts that don't work anymore. We passed many that didn't even light up. If it wasn't for the stray light, we wouldn't even know they were there.
Every time we ride this thing, it's always hit or miss with stunts working. Do yourself a favor and go on the Ghost Hole a block away. It's not nostalgic, but it's old enough and very effective for being just a portable dark ride.
I absolutely do not see the attraction to this ride. honestly I liked 1313 cemetary way at Adventureland better. The ride is way too light, and the stunts are to easy to see, and for the price the track is just too short. Like most rides here I am sure it used to be much better, but the version I saw is lucky to receive a 2.
I love dark rides and this one is really fun
Any old surviving Pretzel dark ride is worth going on in my opinion. They are true classics. The ever shrinking Spook-O-Rama is a whole lot of fun with its corny poop of spooks, cars that fall off the track, and its wonderful soundtrack. Its a shame that they didnt keep the ride like it used to be where it went all over outside before going indoors.
I just hope this one survives Coney Islands condo redevelpment too!
I thought it was better than average but it was not dark inside at all and i rode it at 10:30 at night. This ruied many of the stunts unless you were staring straight ahead the whole time. I wanted to be surprised so I never craned my neck to see what was coming. However, I could see how that would lower someones rating. It did get startled at least 3 times during the ride.
It was so scary. I rode it three times by myself. The scenes were very high tech.
My expectations were low when I got on this ride. I excpected it to be a normal and uninspiring spook house. I was wrong. It was pretty high tech and stuff pops out at you really quick. I cant believe its old, it seems brand new.
I rode the Spook-A-Rama for the first time last year after reading an article about it on Laffinthedark.com. I was excited about riding a true dark ride classic, but wasnt expecting too much out of it. Well, I was completely taken by surprise when the ride totally rocked! Disorienting with its old-school spinning cars, with tons of un-caged stunts, I rode it twice. Even my girlfriend, who is by no means a dark ride enthusiast agreed that it was one of the best shes ever been on. And while its probably pale in comparison to its former extended self, it still has a cool creepy location nestled snugly underneath the Wonder Wheel.
This is a great dark ride, for the historic aspect alone - this was the longest at one time, with a much more extensive outdoor track, including a colored, overhead waterfall. Once indoors, its Pretzel-appropriately disorienting, with great stunts. It could do with a little more maintenance, but maybe the stifling lack of fresh air adds to the experience! I highly recommend a trip on the Spook-A-Rama - dont miss it - its right behind the Wonder Wheel.
This ride is great. It is the oldest running dark ride in the world. though the carts are newer, they are from the old Canobie lake park pritzle swamp dark ride. It is a bit cheesy but so much fun.
