A great view as the trains clickity clack down the track (got that off of a cheap overpriced train video advertisment). During the trip, you will view a 10 minute show that changes seasonally. Go at night during the Christmas season, and they will have a whole lot of Christmas lights that are beautiful. You learn about the mountain that took 100 million years to make, and 60 years to carve the famious carving. There is even a free station where you can get off or on to climb up the mountain or go back to the crossroads area without having to get an all atractions pass. If you are relaxing after a long days trip, then ride this train!
I guess its fun, a great view of the mountain.
Great relaxing train ride around the mountain.
Unfortunatly Stone Mountain cheaped out at some point and stopped using the steam locomotives. Now they are just pushed around by the diesel engines like some sort of mounted hood ornament.
Maybe HFE will someday restore the steam engines to operating condition.
When you go to theme parks a lot like me, youve probably been on a few train rides at parks. Most of the time they are miniture railways that go around the park past corny scenes with a few different stops. The train ride at Stone Mountain Park was different though. Mostly because it wasnt a theme park train and was a full size senic railway train. The park had several trains that were both steam and deisel powered, and the one I rode on was deisel. It was a very cool ride. You went around the base of the mountain and was very entertaining. They didnt tell you anything on the ride, but it was very relaxing. The coushined seats helped a lot!
A fantastic train ride. this spans the bottom of the mountain and they give you little tidbits of information such as "granite from Stone mountain was used for the Lincoln Memorial." A must ride while at Stone mountain.
