Review of Yankee Cannonball, The @ Canobie Lake Park
3 Rating Posted by: coaster05 on 8/11/2005 10:48:00 AM
APPEARANCE-9 The trains look fantastic, but the track could use some work. I think it would look better in just the natural wood that they have along the turnaround. When you paint wood you have to keep up on it and that seems like a waste of maintenance. CAPACITY-4 Short one train operation. Now I like the short train but it used to run two so they need to figure that out again. RIDE QUALITY-10 Good fast feeling with no ride ruining roughness. FUN-10 By far the most fun I had at Canobie. RERIDE-10 I would definately ride several times. OVERALL-44 AVG 8.8 I will go 9 just a great old coaster.

Good review. Im not just sayign that because you gave it a high score either. Right now the plan is to paint the coaster. they had to let the new wood weather before painting it to help the wood last. I think they mostly keep it painted do to the tradition. most clasic coaster are painted white and it helps the coaster stick out among the tree line. They paint it normaly every 3-5 years with tuch ups in between. you should have noticed the park is not afraid to paint.

No the park looks fantastic, my small issues with the place had nothing to do with appearance. the parks appearance was easily as good as advertised. I guess I also like the natural wood look since it never really looks rough.

I would expect that if they get another wood coaster it will remain wood toned. but with 75 some od years of the cannonball beign white I think theyll keep it that way.

Yea I am sure you are right. As smooth as most that ride is they obviously take good care of it.

The turn around is now painted. So no natural wood but a clean white coaster. I Woulndt be suprised if the next wood coaster they get is left as natural wood though.

I would definately think leaving it natural would be cheaper. I know paint used to protect it some, but nowadays I would assume paint does not help much.

I too am for the wood look in newer coasters. Paint is for the Golden Age coasters (what few are left).

You mean like the nealry 70 year old Cannonbal. In this case it woudl cause allot more. the rest of the coaster is painted so it would take allot of time to gt the paint off and seal anythign that is needed to be sealed. On this particualre ocation though I find the white coaster wraped around the parking lot beter then a natural wood coaster.
