Finally B&M gets it totally right! The floorless car thing is kind of "gimmicky" but it really doesnt affect the ride at all unless you sit up front - anywhere else and it becomes a regular B&M sitdown with one exception - ITS ACTUALLY GOOD! The elements are all spaced nicely, and the underground section has some great cooling mist.

Face it, evey RIDE has some sort of "gimmick", so the parks can sell it on commericials and such. Stand-up, floorless, launched, inverted, vertical, flying- they are all "gimmicks" to an extent. Weather it be, hight, inversions, or one of the above, just about every ride has a "gimmick".

Hold on, forgot some things-

Also you must remember that we (the coaster enthusiasts) only make up around 1% of the coaster riding population. The parks buy a new ride (say a floorless) so the GP (General Public) can go to the park and say "wow, lookie there, I aint ever seen one of them before", then they buy a t-shirt, tell all their freinds and such, so they will come to the park to ride it. About the commercial thing before, havent you heard "the only flying-coaster on the east coast" or "the tallest stand-up in the south-east!)

Why cant you people understand that everything revolves around money?

You people...you mean one person. I think we all know most rides have gimmicks.

my fav ride gimmicks.. dueling dragons - dueling, apollos chariot - most drops feet for feet, alpengeist - tallest most twisted invert, hulk - launch UP THE LIFTHILL, hypersonic - 1st thrust air, 1st 90 degree drop, fastest acceleration etc....every coaster has some sort of "gimmick" to it and that is all there is to it. name a coaster and there is a "gimmick" to be found.

Heres a list of coasters that have no gimmick- Titan (just a sitdown coaster), Wildfire (sit down looper, nothing special), Roar (standard woodie) - I think you get the idea. I pulled those 4 rides from the top ten of this very site. Theyre all great coasters with no gimmicks. They take you up and drop you through a great layout. Hulks launch is the only thing special about it. Krakens florrless cars are irrelevant, itd be just as good with regular sit-down cars. SOBs loop was all they were concerned about with that one - without the loop its a lame overgrown woodie. Thats the difference between gimmicks to sell a coaster and a great ride selling itself.

well when you think about it...even titan could be called gimmicky just for being a hyper. or wildfire for being built custom to the terrian. like i said they can pull gimmicks out of anywhere for advertising purposes.

agreed

You guys make NO sense. You all blast me for calling a couple of coasters "gimmicky" - then when I sucessfully explain why ones are gimmicky and many others arent, then you all start saying every coaster has a gimmick. WTF? You disagree until I make a point, then you agree with my original point just to disagree even further. I dont see size as a gimmick at all, coasters will naturally get bigger over time - its called progress. As for a coaster being built to the terrain - not even close, if youve ever been to SDC you know its almost a necessity, kind of like Kennywood. Plus I hardly expect to see commercials saying, "Look its built top the TERRAIN!!!! How can you resist. Its incredible" - thats hardly a selling point. You boys need to learn some things about coasters.

i never said anything about coasters not being gimmiecked

i did some thinking. a lot of rides dont have "gimmicks" per say, it would be more like traits of the ride that are used to hype it up or for advertising. ex. first major coaster in blah blah blah years, mogidishus first stand up etc, this whole gimmick thing is a pretty pointless thing to argue over so i guess thats the best way to sum up my opinion

actually, Wildfire has a better gimmick than being custom fitted to terrain, its the only sitdown B&M to feature an immelmann. even crappy TOGOs have gimmicks: standups, first coaster with an inline twist, not just the most painful. all coasters come with gimmicks, its just how they get ppl to ride them
