Review of Earthquake - The Big One @ Universal Studios Florida

Ok, last time I gave this a 7, but now Im going to knock it down a point. Yes, it was a very good simulation of an Earthquake, but I feel that this ride is in dire need of an update. At least change the show a bit, because it is the same as it was years ago. The simulation still impresses me with the use of fire and especially the water, but it doesnt have much of a re-ride possibility. For some reason, it was something that we just didnt want to touch again. Maybe because it hasnt been changed, mabe because it no longer reigns high over Universal Studios, and now, is near the bottom of the food chain. I have to agree with some of the other comments... the truck is a bit too slow, I recall commenting how "Im sure in an earthquake that a gas tanker stays parallel when falling". Leave it to an engineer to criticise the motion of a sliding object with an unequal distribution of weight. Sorry guys, I just dont buy some of the "effects" of the earthquake any more, hence, a drop in a point. Yes, three years ago I was a bit younger and a bit more generous/awe-able, but now I feel nothing but disappointment from this and Twister, which was certainly a bigger letdown. I knew this one would stink, I was expecting improvement over time and unfortunately, that didnt come with Twister. Again, I never say never, you should ride this one at least once, heck, at least once per trip, but I wouldnt go on it again later in the trip unless it had been a walk-on (then I would have considered it)

The ride is different depending on where you sit. They have stuff going on left and right, front and back, so I disagree with the re-ride possibility thing. I guess I love Earthquake and Twister so much because I have always been a natural disaster kind of guy. Sure, I hate to see them come, but at the same time find them interesting. So, being able to see a simulation such as Twister or Earthquake (and the fact that there arent any others such as these) lets me enjoy these disasters in a good way.

I agree that the ride is different from different seats. IE, last time, I was on the outside right near the fire on the right side. Yes, the fact that there is no other simulator shows like these is a plus, but I still felt a bit disappointed. I sat second from the outside on the left of the train near the rushing water, getting a different prospective and effect, but still, I wasnt thrilled or excited as much as I was last time, hence, a 1-point drop in the review.
