Perhaps one of the most underrated coasters on earth! It'll let you down if you're coming in expecting a forceful ride. But if you forget about that, you're gonna get an amazing ride.
The giant wooden structure makes the whole thing feel epic from start to finish and the plunges into the structure are not all that steep or heart-pounding, but they're still very exciting, especially the super thrilling big second drop. Other pluses are that the ride is reasonably smooth and deliver a surprising airtime spot on track number 1's double down.
Sure, the ride has those uncomfortable Morgan trains and features sloths operating a single train that doesn't race since only one track is opened at once, but the excitement delivered by the ride's irrestible flair provides a truly amazing old-school woodie experience.
A must-ride if you eventually get to LaRonde.
Poor wooden coaster in my opinion that used to be better. The entire structure looks great, but the ride is pretty dull nowadays. Rarely does the park ever run both sides and therefore theres no racing effect. The two drops had some good speed to them and good laterals as well, but the rest of the ride was very slow. There were decent laterals during the ride, but no air at all.
Le monstre was surprisingly a very very good coaster. It was very smooth on my first ride which was very good. ALthough the queue was filthy the coaster was actually very visually appealing. A gigantic lumber mass of wood is what it looked like. The first drop was only about 60 feet but the second one was about 100 feet twisting to the left. The coaster has some great Lateral gs and also had about 3 spots of fairly good airtime. The coaster also had great head choppers and was quite long as well. I only rode track 1 though so I dont know what track 2 is like though they looked very similar.
So funny! I love this ride, its also good for beginners, its high but since you have all that wood all over you youre not scared. It isnt really intense, it goes fast and the turns are nice. Im novice in the coasters world and the drops havent really stunned me. The ride is a little bit rough because you get shake from side to side. But its still nice and worth the wait! Do it! And its one of the three coasters built by William Cobb...wow... ... ... just do it.
My evening trip to the park was dead, so they were only running one side of this ride. The ride ops only wanted to run the one train if it was completely full. This created some downtime waiting for enough people to fill the ride to head out. I sat in the 2nd last row and although the structure looks very interesting as you are walking past it, the ride itself is not very inspired. It is kind of a dull ride, but it is not painfully rough or anything either, so it gets a slightly above average ranking.
a REALLY good coaster, for me, when i say Coaster, y say WOODEN coaster, and Le Monstre is a realy good, really big coaster, it looks very huge when you are in the park. And Le Monstre is a fast coaster, but there is no air-times.
woodie with a slow moving queue. they only had one train running on one side when I was there. The plus - the retro fitted seat belts where the buckle rests on your side protecting your "property", nice wildness, nice headchoppers. The negative - absolutely no air
Im not that big of a fan of woodies to begin with, I prefer the smoother ride of the steel coasters. My experience with Le Monstre wasnt really a great one. First, our train got stuck for about 10 minutes during the first incline. Then, once they finally got the ride running again, it was a pretty rough ride. Id say, give it a chance, ride it once, but its not one Id rush to ever again.
Le Monstre has been a Montreal landmark for over 30 years. I hope they dont lose it to neglect and vandalism. The queue for this coaster is the filthiest, most disgusting collection of gum, snot, graffiti and other unmentionables Ive ever seen in a theme park. However, the ride is decent compensation. The tracks are only slightly different, with lots of dives and fast turns. This is not a coaster for air-time. The left track almost always has a shorter line (accessed by turning just a few feet past the entrance). If La Ronde staff cleaned up the queue and made an effort to race the coasters, I would improve my rating to an 8 or 9.
Very scary coaster especially in the front. It is the second best ride at La Ronde after le Vampire. Rickety wooden roller coaster. The roller coaster weaves under itself. 2 tracks with almost identical sensations. Track 1 is slightly scarier but ask the clerk which track has less lineup and take that track. You do get lifted off your seat on one drop. No speed pass on this ride.
