Welcome to Clementon, New Jersey... home of Clementon Amusement Park.

And the cheapest gas in North America. (I didn't get a picture, but there was a gas station that had regular, plus and premium for the low low cost of one cent. I'm pretty sure they just don't update the signs).

But anyway, this isn't about gas, it is about a truly charming park in Clementon. Clementon might not look like much, but there is a lot of character jammed into the small package.

I got to the park around 6:30 and entered the park for the night time rate which took affect at 4. I had planned on getting to the park a little earlier, but traffic was a mess and I got a little lost somewhere around the Liberty Bell... long story. But, this is supposed to be about the park I decided not to use the coupon for 7 dollars off because of the park current financial situation and I figure they could use every dollar they can get. However, the parking lot was pretty full.

I was never happier to have a hard time finding a parking spot. I entered the park and got my wristband and headed straight to J2 ("Tsunami").

This was the main reason I made the journey to the park. I just couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to ride a new wooden coaster that has a very good possibility of being SBNO very shortly.

Though standing just 110 feet tall, it dominates the skyline of the park and the parks surroundings. It's not the kind of ride that you would give a Most Attractive to the Eyes Award to with the steel supports and the shabbily thrown together wood strack thrown on top of it, but believe me, who cares when a ride is as good as this. It the ride quality that counts and J2 certainly delivers a powerful punch.

The first drop currently holds the record for the steepest drop on a North American wooden coaster (that's for now of course, since The Voyage will break that next year). And let me tell you, the air that you get all the way down on that drop is sensational. In the back car, you are completely off of the seat the entire way down until you are "slammed" in a comfortable, non-spinal adjustment needed, fashion at the lull in-between the first and second hills. Oh yeah, speaking of the back car...

And it was pounded into your head that it was a wild ride whether it was by sign...

... or by the constant announcement that the ride is "severely aggressive".

The ride is just that, but that is my kind of coaster. It is not the kind that will kill you and break you ribcage, but it not the kind that you want your kid to ride as their first coaster. I don't know how to explain it without either over- or under-stating its aggressiveness. I think the best way I can sum it up is that it is violent. If you like the kind of ride that will knock you around and kick the snot out of you, then you rough and tumbles would be in for a treat on this bad boy. In the words of the nice Hispanic man that was exiting the station before my first ride, "That thing kicks your butt."

After a couple of rides on J2, I went around the rest of the park. There is not too much to the park, but what is there is definitely unique. It's just one of those kinds of small parks that could serve many purposes, and execute them to perfection. Take the family, take a first date. Go for the whole day and hit up the water park, go for a nice little stroll in the park at dusk. It's just that

Now that the park is more sale, I have tried to find out more info about the park. This is a great T.R. It really looks like a great little park. Makes we wish I had $15 mil. I really hope someone who cares about parks finds interest in it. Small parks like this can work if done right (see Knoebels, Indiana Beach, Idlewild, and some others).
