Back in ’06, I was about to leave Kings Dominion until I noticed an attraction on my park map called “Treasure Cave.” Shockingly I hadn’t seen it at all during my two day visit to the park, and decided to search for it while passing through Kidzville. Expecting a cheap, unoriginal kids play area, I was shocked to discover that the park was home to a unique walkthrough. Having never heard anything of this attraction before I decided to give it a shot, and I’m glad I did since this truly is a hidden gem.
Located in Kidzville, hidden beneath the heavy shade produced from the trees featured in this section of the park, Treasure Cave doesn’t really look like much at first, with its brown, rather original appearance. However, I decided not to judge the attraction based solely on its appearance and gave it a shot, hoping for the best. Well, that and the fact that there wasn’t a wait at all for this, and I assume that this is always a walk-on like most walkthrough attractions.
Once inside, I was treated to a cute, little walkthrough which consisted of a narrow, twisted path through a dimly-lit cave. Along the way were a variety of small crawls and passages designed for the young audience for which the attraction is intended for. And despite being older than the intended audience, I still admired this classic walkthrough and some of the elements, especially the finale- the great crooked floor. I always love crooked floors, and this one is executed very well. While a short attraction, it’s definitely quirky and one-of-a-kind.
Treasure Cave is a quirky, little attraction that is great for kids thanks to its unique elements, especially the crooked floor. Adults will some enjoyment in this rare attraction since it really provides a nice change of pace from the hectic, adrenalin-pumping thrills the rest of the park provides, and it really is some thing you don’t find at most corporate parks, much like The Great Escape’s Alice in Wonderland. If you have some extra time during your visit, give this unique walkthrough a chance, though I will admit that the park is home to far more enjoyable attractions that should be experienced first.
