For a steel coaster from the seventies Lochness is amazing and still rocks in 2005! BGW does it again. Even the parks dinosaur so to speak has some pretty cool elements. A pretty steep drop to the Rhine River, one of the worlds only coasters with interlocking loops and the longest helix youll find anywhere. And did I mention its in a dark cave. Not some short tunnel or covered section. I couldnt see my hand in front of face, now thats dark! And its a great surprise for new riders as its cleverly not on park maps and thanks to BGWs foiliage and topogrophy its hard to see from footpaths. At the bottom of the super long helix, as you exit the cave they used to have a light mist that would spray riders. Im not sure if this was off because I went late in the season or becuase they took it out all together. Next you hit a second lift which kind of kills the great momementum the ride has had up to that point. Its really too bad they couldnt have used tire propulsion or something to get enough speed up so you didnt need another lift. (Maybe theyll make that adjustment for the 30 year anniversary in a few years.) After the second shorter lift you drop right into the second loop as your pictures taken, then its right into the station breaks. I have to say after all of these years Nessie has aged gracefully, especially for an Arrow looper. I expected the loops to be as rough as the loops on the other water-loving serpeant just up the road, but Im glad to say that they werent. They were fun with great gs and virtually no headbanging. Lochness is a classic steel coaster thats showing some longevity. Shes definitely an oldie but goodie. Final Rating - 8.0 (Great)
