Review of Chang @ Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom

Chang is one of the coolest looking coasters out there. Good color scheme and I love the way B&M does their support structures. SFKK has done a bad job maintaining the ride though. It badly needs a paint job and there is noticeable rust all over the track. The trains also look a bit shabby. Ride ops were lazy too. Theming could be so good (not many Asian themed rides) but is cheaply done. Well, all of these are basically comments about the park, but its Six Flags - whats new? Anyway, Im not a huge fan of standup coasters. I like the freedom but towards the end of the ride my legs start getting sore. I found Chang very similar to Cedar Points Mantis. Chang has better size and an extra inversion, but one thing I found is that the trains look lethargic as they go through the course. With such a big drop I would expect the trains to dart in and out of inversions, but instead they seem to crawl through each element. Uncharacteristic of a B&M. The first drop is great and the first two inversions are massive. The ride is long and there is even some airtime on some of the final hills. Chang is a solid ride, very good for a standup. Had it been the same design in a sitdown or floorless I would have liked it better because Im not a standup fan. A good ride though.

Chang was painted at the start of the 2006 season (Yellow track and blue supports) and looks great now!
