Review of Volcano, The Blast Coaster @ Kings Dominion

Volcanos pair of launches were a blast (sorry for the bad pun). Not knowing that there were two launches, I was taken by suprise. I only rode once, but it was from the front seat. The first launch into the long banked turn was ok, but that reenergizing launch in the mountain was really fun: up you go at 155 feet into the worlds tallest inversion, whatever its called (rcdb says Roll Out). After that, the ride is all but over to me. The ride proceeds to have some high banked turns going into three heartline rolls, all of which were taken at relatively low speeds which produces some nice forces, saving this ride from a 7. The last diving turn back into the volcano was alrigt, not too thrilling, but still fun. This coaster was enjoyable, but I didnt feel like it was one to ride over and over. Though it is one of my favorite launches, a category I am not too fond of, I didnt even think it was the best ride in the Congo section, rather, I thought its newest neighbor Tomb Raider was. Volcano gets an 8 from me, but is good enough to be my favorite non-B&M Invert.

I cant believe you like Tomb Raider better. I know they are both good rides, but what is so great about Tomb Raider that makes it beat out Volcano? Tomb Raider is a big tease that has a few good flips but is just slow, slow, slow, and very hard on private parts.

What is so great about Volcano? It looks so big and bad yet its just a few ok barrel rolls and an overall slow, somewhat boring ride.

I, myself like the launch, the opening turns, and the last dive at the end I found to be really a great ending last time I rode it. Yes when you go out of the top it gets a bit boaring but at least it has a great begining and ending. The middle isnt half bad though. I just dont see how Tomb Raider can be better.

Q: "I just dont see how Tomb Raider can be better."
A: Perhaps because you dont know the meaning of the word opinion?

Volcano is a disappointing one-trick-pony...while I not sure if I would quite put Tomb Raider above it in my book, I can see where some would. Within its genre, Firefall is a fantastic ride, despite the theming that is falling apart at the seems. Volcano is an uninspired ride with a few unique points but overall just falls short among other coasters.
