Review of Down Time @ Lake Compounce

like said its an S&S drop tower which is advertised as a 185 foot drop (overall tower is said to be 211 ft tall) but it does partially shoot you up into the air which is funny to watch unexpecting people on the ride scream just by being shot up. When your at the top of the ride you get a great view out into the park. You then sit up there for about 10 seconds which just build the anticipation. After you hear the alarm from the clock you have only a few seconds before you SHOT to the ground at about 55 mph so it DOSENT just drop you. They have also done a great job with scenary around the ride. The operators building has a hige clock on the side with the numbers missing and mechanical hands that move out of control and is really nice. Around the ride and the que line you see huge numbers and parts of the clock sitting on the ground.

As for the lines I have been there numerous times and the lines have been decent sizes but the workers at the ride really move them around. They have people pregrouped before the previous ride ends and has them assigned to seat numbers to reduce confusion (even though many stuipd guest still cant get figure out where to seat.) They even have a sign which tries to find single riders. So if your by yourelf you can really move through the line. Also they have another operator on the floor with the attendant to check restraints so they keep turnover time very low. Overall Lake Compounce has done a very good job on there newest ride.

They even thought of younger kids who dont meet the 52 inch minimum by putting in about a 40 foot kiddie drop tower which can even seat adults and is theme very nicly with Garefeild.

Great review! Since Compounce is one of my "local" parks, I look forward to trying this thing out. Glad to see the park has come up with an organized way to move large crowds. Lake Compounce has always been one of the best parks in terms of large lines being moved fast, so I am sure this new ride will be a hit with the crowds.
