I had high hopes for the Mantis, having satisfactorily ridden a number of other B&M coasters over the years. I thought that the stand-up approach might offer a unique perspective much like the floorless and inverted designs that I had experienced. To say that I was disappointed, would be an understatement--I HATED this ride. The Mantis delivered the most oppressive G forces that I have ever experienced--and that is not a complement. Perhaps it was where I was sitting (toward the middle of the train) or the speed of the coaster on that day, but Mantis made me feel awful from beginning to end. Bear in mind that on this same trip, I had thoroughly enjoyed trips on Raptor, Millenium Force, and Wicked Twister, so its not that Im totally averse to positive Gs. The Mantis simply put a few too many fingers on the scale for my taste. I can only assume that I am not the first to complain about this, either--I couldnt help by notice the trim brake on the first descent. Im afraid that it didnt trim enough for me.
