Review of Sky Princess @ Dutch Wonderland

This ride is the best kiddie coaster probably in the world. If you have small children who are too afraid to ride big coasters, bring them to PA to ride the Sky Princess. It was my first coaster and I rode it 32 times that summer. This is not the Cyclone, but it is perfect for the youngins.

I wouldnt exactly call this a "kiddie" coaster... perhaps a Jr. Joust actually is closer to a "kiddie" coaster.

At 55 in height, 2000 feet in length and using standard PTC trains, this is actually closer to a full fledged coaster, though geared toward families, than anything else.

I have to disagree. This coaster is like the Millenium Force of kiddie coasters. It is perfect, like weve said before, for families.

Agreed with TOGO_Fan... Ill go along with Sky Princess as a "Family Coaster".

However, it all depends on your deffinition of "Family" coaster. Looking at the RCDB, the coasters that they all list as "Family" are rather on the small side (several hundred feet in length, not all that high either)... and while geared toward kids, they are large enough for adults to ride (Joust fits this category). Some also use the term "family" coaster as a coaster that is not quite as large as some, and usually tamer than some, offering some thrills, but nothing to intense so that just about anyone can ride. If you use this deffintion, I would fit "Sky Princess" into this category.

Besides, how many "kiddie" coasters have a minium height requirement of 42" to be able to ride? (Many kiddie coasters will not let you ride if you are over 42")

Like I said this is the Millenium Force of Kiddie Coasters. "Big" kids can ride it, but it is not meant for adults to go on by themselves...you can call it a family coaster too, but a family coaster isnt a regular coaster either...

Odd then because the day I rode it, I rode it by myself (my neice was too small to ride... not 42inches tall... as I said, funny that a Kiddie coaster would have a minium height requirement)... and there were a few other adults on it by themselves (including a couple who had to be in their 60s).

A wooden coaster, 2000+ feet long, 50 feet tall, using fairly standard PTC trains, having a few small hops of air time, and a few laterals (in the first turn and the helix) I would call a "wooden coaster, smaller than many, geared toward families".

Truthfully, its even a little too "large" for a "Junior" coaster... certainly way too large for a "Kiddie" coaster.

Too large for a Junior Coaster!?!? I was a junior myself when I rode it. I am not saying adults "wont" go on it, I am saying the ride is geared for children. Any ride that is not meant for adults is a kiddie ride in my book. In fact, all of DWs rides are meant for families to go on. The Sky Princess can be looked at in two ways. A very large kiddie coaster or a very small standard coaster. Either way the audience for riding are kids...
