Review of Kingda Ka @ Six Flags Great Adventure
0 Rating Posted by: penguin22 on 9/7/2005 9:41:00 AM
Some people will hate me for giving this a 7, but I have too. I was very impressed with the Golden Kingdoms themeing, but more could have gone into Kingda Ka. I would have liked a story to go along with the ride. As for the ride, to me it is a slightrly taller and slightly faster Top Thrill Dragster. The ride ops did pretty good, and the launch was different, but it is the same ride as TTD. The only difference is the bunny hop and that didnt do much. I dont like TTD as much as other people and the same goes with this. Dont get me wrong,it isnt a bad ride, its just a waste to wait an hour like I did for a 40 second ride. Oh yeah, the horn needs to go also. TTD was a lot better as far as the pre launch is concerned.

Dont worry about what other people will have to say about this review. I like the review not just because I agree, but you stated your opinion of the ride well. I dont think that there could have been a real story with the ride, it would have been cool, but its not really needed. To be picky, yes, I think the horn needs to go. I would have really liked to have seen (or heard) a different way to let you know that the train would be launching. A tigers roar would have been neat or just a jungle drum beat or something. A gong would have been cool like they had at the media day festivities. Basically, I agree with you about what you said and dont be afraid of what people think. I was borderline between a 7 and 8 rating myself.

You gave a decent review and theres nothing wrong with giving this ride the rating you did. Theres certainly plenty of reasons why somebody would rate this ride low. I happened to get 2 rides on it in a relatively short period of time and I absolutely loved the launch and spiral. Therefore, I gave the ride a high rating. However, I can definitely see how this ride could leave a lot to be desired .... especially if the wait was long (which it almost always is).

The line usually gets long, because of all of the breakdowns. Also, many New Jersey locals havent even gotten a chance to ride it yet, because of the breakdowns, so many of them want to ride it.

You waited an hour for it penguin? Last time I went to SFGAdv the wait was 6 hours. They had a makeshift line maze set up at the start of the path that leads to KK. After you go through that maze, some attendant gives you a ticket (to weed out line jumpers I guess as I saw someone get thrown out of line for having a similar or used ticket) then you wait in another line extention that spanned from the back of the KK loading station to the actual entrance. Ill just go to GAdv on Season Pass Day to get my ride in.

I cant believe how long Kingda Kas line gets. Despite how its a great coaster, it isnt worth a 6 hour wait. Did they tell you how long the wait was? Or did you figure the wait was 6 hours?

I can believe that there was such a big line for the ride. With the amount of people that go to the park and the way the ride and Golden Kingdom were advertised, if the ride was open more during the summer, I wouldnt have been surprised if there were lines upwards of 8 hours. I definately wouldnt wait that long for it though. Luckily I was there during the day of Media Day and then the next Kingda Ka Friday.

If you dont get a Fast Lane / Q-bot / whatever they call it, then the best way to get on KK is to get to the park at 9:30. As soon as the barriers are raised, go straight to KK. Get as many rides as you can before the line gets too long. You should be able to get in at least 2 rides before the line gets to the 2 hour mark. Most other rides will be a walk-on after that !

Or, you can just go to the Kingda Ka Friday if you are a season passholder

Im pretty sure the last one was cancelled, that is the only problem with it - you never really know when it will be open on one of those days. However, I park does give advance on whether the ride will be open and what rides will be replacing it. Good luck though. I hope you have a good time on it.

I want to go badly, but it would be difficult for me to get to Jackson, NJ.

I dont get the comment that you "wanted a story to go along with the ride." Maybe you guys are all more sophisticated than I am, but theming is just so absolutely unimportant to me.

i know what you mean (well, i havent been on kingda ka but seeing as it has the exact same layout as dragster with just a little bunny hill...) i would hope that the worlds tallest and fastest coaster would be more than just being a single hill (or two). as for dragsters launch, i love it! by the pictures ive seen and the reviews and comments here and other places, kingda kas launch is a lot less, im not going to say intense because it is, but it doesnt necessarily get you in the mood (so i hear). i just love how you sit on dragster with the stands next to you and people watching closely and the lights: yellow yellow yellow green and then youre off! excellent launch, but other than that, it just qualifies as tallest and fastest, not exactly the most exciting or fun.

Your review seems sensible, and by looking at the ride and not ridden it, it appears to be a launch coaster clone which i am sure is good but no dramatic difference from the previous record holder and i dont think the theming coincides with the ride especially if it has a horn that blows, but i am sure six flags did well to make this ride work.
