Review of Kingda Ka @ Six Flags Great Adventure
3 Rating Posted by: BobFunland on 6/2/2005 9:26:00 PM
Yet another world-record breaking Intamin Accelerator coaster. Fun? Yes, without a doubt. Exciting? You better believe it. Pretty much the same ride as Dragster? Once again, yep. I got lucky to ride this less than an hour after the first members of the public did during a season passholder preview. It was fun, and Im glad to have only ridden it after a 30 minute wait as opposed to a 6 hour wait. The launch was still fun, but seemed to be a bit different. I cant quite place my finger on the difference. The tower is even taller than Dragster, though in the same direction and everything. I wish they would have at least done the mirror image, not just for different sensations, but to try to see the Atlantic on a clear day as well. Then you spiral down and throw in one unique element: the bunny hill. Even with the shoulder restraints, courtesy of the great state of New Jersey Im sure, the riders at least feel some airtime. Its weird though. The train flies over the hill, probably above 75 mph, so its really short and abrupt, but the harnesses give a weird feeling unlike your ordinary ejection, and thats coming from the second to last row. Overall the ride is pretty fun, equal to Dragster once equating the lack of design originality. The ride looks great. I like the colors of the ride and the vibrant trains. The Golden Kingdom area looks amazing, reviving Six Flags reputation as a theme park company. The area rivals the best of Busch, and is still clean and wonderful. The great themeing all adds up to another point, especially when I was very close to giving Dragster a 9.Though I still prefer Storm Runner, it is nice to see the strata coasters do have a bit of staying power within me, and since well probably see more thats a good thing to me

I, on behalf of Hercules, thank the bum who gave both of us "bad" ratings because we didnt give it a 10 like you liked it. Good job

A 10 is hard to come by...especially from Bob :o

Ooh two bads thats a personal record I dont mind who did it (but have a hunch) I just wish they would at least say why, even if anonymously. Oh well life goes on I guess... I know my review didnt help anyone or anything.

Bob be proud that your lifes existence is not based on the approval of others. How can you not rate the new extreme coaster a ten. I mean look at that creative layout I have never seen anything like it. If you are not automatically following the young Bob you may have to admit you have left the "teen" years. Welcome

Huh? Im sorry, I cant quite figure out what you are saying. I went to canada tonight and its legal for me to drink there, so yea.. sorry, can help me out with that.

Bob I was commenting on the two bad reviews you got and the way so many people think everything new must be a ten and if you dont agree you must be wrong.

Doh I wasnt sure, I actually thought you were picking on me . I cant always keep up with sarcasm. Ironic, coming from me. Thanks though its all good

I still have not rode TTD let alone this. Who knows I may end up really liking this type of ride, but I know I wont come back and give you a bad mark for your review.

I didnt follow what that guy said either, and I didnt get loaded up in Canada....

I hate how a lot of people just automatically expect that a new ride should just be a 10, or people who are retarded enough to give a bad rating just because they are a fanboy or think that it is a 10 and see something that is not a 10 and dont bother reading the review itself. Stupid. Here is a great example of fanboyness. You just say one bad thing, but have points to back it up, and they just jump on you

That second one is more or less someone saying "Its new.. it must be awesome" That site pisses me off. Then they have the nerve to lock up a thread because they dont like what I say. Oh yeah, they are elements. Well here is news for you, dont you find some elements better than others?

just out of curiousity... bobfunland, do you work at hershey? or anyone named ryan work at hershey? because i was talking to a coaster enthusiast.... and he said he liked storm runner better and he was really into coasters and all that...
BobFunland on 6/5/2005 2:07:24 AM said:
Of course someone at Hershey would say he liked SR better. No, I dont work there, but Cyclonic does LOL

is his name ryan?

No, it was a joke. A guy named Nathan Brown works there, but its not the same person we all know and love. pic

I like Storm Runner a lot better. And that pic is really funny.

hah... i liked kingda ka better...

Hey Bob, I just gave you and Herc the "Good" that your reviews both deserve. I agree that this should not be based on agreement with opinions, but rather on the completeness and helpfullness of the review.
therock on 7/5/2005 11:42:37 AM said:
Hey Herc, did you like Storm Runner better due to the more complete layout? Was it as intense as Kingda Ka? I know that the top speed on Kingda Kas launch is much higher, but the rate of acceleration is about the same. The 0-72mph in 2 sec on Storm Runner is about the same rate of acceleration as the 0-128mph in 3.5 sec on Kingda Ka.
embalmer on 7/9/2005 6:22:52 PM said:
I seriously doubt if the rate of acceleration of storm runner is the same as King da ka. Kinda ka probably achieves approximately 80 mph in 2 seconds then the next 48 mph is gained in another second and a half. If youre looking at acceleration comparison and not have ridden the ride is going to be hard to rate.
fergusonat on 7/10/2005 6:48:15 PM said:
^How can you even tell? Its about 36 mph gained per second...for both rides, with KK slightly faster by .6 mph per second
BobFunland on 7/11/2005 3:05:44 AM said:
Somebody isnt a Physics fan, huh? You cant just divide the speed by time, what you really need to know is the distance of the launch to get a better estimate. Needless to say, we are talking about relatively useless data: they are both fast, and both intense.
therock on 7/11/2005 10:05:43 AM said:
Thanks. "both fast and both intense" Thats all I wanted to know.
therock on 7/11/2005 10:15:53 AM said:
Also, I should have made it clearer that I was talking about average acceleration rather than instantaneous acceleration, which is not of much value in colloquial discussion IMO. I was comparing thes average acceleraion of the 2 coasters for the first 2 seconds. When discussing average acceleration, the distance has already been taken into account in the speed equation: v=d/t, so the average acceleration looks at distance as a subcomponent of speed. Thanks for pointing out the distance factor though. I should have been more specific, but really, this is all a much more complex discussion than I wanted to have. I really just wanted to know if Storm Runners launch feels comparable tfo Kingda Ka in a general sense. Thanks.
