Review of Avalanche @ Timber Falls Adventure Park

This coaster is pure insanity. As crazy a ride as the Coney Island Cyclone and thats not blasphemy. You look at this thing and snicker to yourself "how good can this really be?" The track is two laps around the boundary of the park (a miniature golf course, log flume and bumper boats). The lift hill is only 88 feet high and the train consists of three PTC cars for a total of 12 passengers. This thing looks like a joke.

The loading is quick and then the train is up the unassuming lift hill. Then the insanity starts.

A steep drop, air on every hill, bunny hop, scoots under a billboard advertising a Mexican restaurant, furious speed through overbanked turns galore. This is one utterly out of control ride and one where you really imagine the train having a mind of its own and obeying the laws of centrifugal by flying right off the tracks on turn 3 and right into the parking lot of the Mexican restaurant.

Thoroughly reridable and the unlimited wristband helps. It tosses you around but not in a painful way. I got fifteen rides in over 70 minutes starting at 8:15PM. The 5:30 to close wristband is only $13.99. Single train operation (no room for a second train) and never had to wait more than one 2 minute circuit to ride.

This must be experienced over and over again, especially from the back seat.

I wonder if the designers, builders or Timber Falls had any idea of how good this coaster was going to be.

Nice review. To tell you the truth, I had never heard of this ride before until you reviewed it. I never would have thought that S&S could make a good wooden coaster. Go figure. It really does look like a joke. It doesnt even look like they finished it in some spots. It looks like it is something that I could have built in my back yard to tell you the truth. But like you said, that is just the look of it.

I met a couple of people from ACE while riding and they had the same sentiments. They said this coaster has put Wisconsin Dells on the map as a must visit for a lot of coaster junkies. Funny thing is the Avalanche ride ops can see Hades from their loading platform and are talking about wnating to go Mt. Olympus. They dont even realize how good Avalanche Run is.

I also ran into a guy from Coaster Buzz while riding Hades, he had spent the previous night riding Avalanche 32 times.

I have heard some really good things about it. Hades wasnt the only thing I was after in the Dells. Its Paul Rubens favorite woodie too LOL Thanks for persuading me even more...

I will be there in less then one month so I am really excited since we seem to have similar taste in wood coasters.

Wow, I was sure that Hades was going to be the star of my Dells trip later this month but I think Avalanche may give it a run for its money. Great review!

Its always great when a small park is able to get a great ride like this. Sometimes its more fun to look for good caosters that are off the radar than to go to big well-known parks.

This ride is pure heaven and may be the future for wooden coasters. By that I mean if this park makes money maybe other small parks will pay for these custom built coasters that big parks feel are not "exciting" enough to put in.
