Review of Great American Scream Machine @ Six Flags Great Adventure

I didnt really find this to be that painful to tell you the truth. It was actually one that I wanted to ride for a while, actually since it was built. It wasnt really all that impressive. I dont think that it would have been even if I had riden it back when it was first built. Like I said, I didnt find it that painful, but my girlfriend had like freakin whiplash when she got off this heap of metal that is just plopped in the middle of an asphalt jungle. Her head was banging against the supports so much that she lost an earring. Overall, the ride was boring and rough, but not painful rough. Just a little tightness in the back rough. While on the ride, the inversions were less than intense, but when something is not intense, I would like it to atleast be fun, which this ride was not. Boring, hurts (some people) and horrible themeing (ummm none and a rundown station) leads to a very gracious rating, but this ride truely stinks.

Hey herc, I havent ridden this ride in many years, but I just noticed that in the first photo on this page, the track seems to elevate too high into the loop, resulting in a smaller loop than could have been accomplished in that space. Did you find this approach to lessen the intensity substantially? I am wondering why they built the loop that way.

That is just an Arrow design. As you get to know rides and stuff, you will see things like that from Arrow. That is just how the liked to build coasters. It looks weird, but that is how they did things. Im not sure if that is what killed the intensity or what. Wow, I was a little harsh on this thing in the review. Its not that great of a ride but it at least deserves respect. The first visit of the season this thing ruined my day though and I had to leave early because of that damn next to last corkscrew where the photo is (which is stupid to still have a photo on the ride anyway). It does make for a very funny photo with everyone in pain and their heads all pushed to the left due to a very bad transition. I have learned to ride it correctly, but only do it if there is nothing else to do and feel the need to put myself through torture. I believe it was actually the tallest coaster in the world when it was built and then was beat out a few weeks later by Magnum. Someone correct me if Im wrong. But yeah, its not that great of a ride. The lines prove that. However, there are some people in the general public that like it just because it has so many innersions. The most boring part is the mid course brakes. Sometimes you think that the ride is just going to come to a complete stop. Anyway, Ill stop ranting about this ride. At least it got a new paint job.
