Missed News - Universal Orlando

Missed this one a while back. Heres some early info on what the new attractions at the studios might be.

The Mummy or The Scorpion King adventure film series -- or both. It would replace the King Kong attraction at the Universal Studios park.

The second addition is expected to be an interactive 3-D film show, themed to the animated Shrek and Shrek II motion pictures. One source has this show going into the Alfred Hitchcock attraction. Another claims it will fill the now-closed Murder She Wrote show.

Finally, in a separate announcement, look for a super-coaster -- the first addition to the thrill ride-oriented Islands of Adventure park since its 1999 opening -- to be built in the Jurassic Park area. Three concepts are being contemplated, using three different ride systems, including one system that goes forward and backward.

Something just puts me off about the idea of what they're implementing here. I mean who's going to know what the Scorpion King is in 10-15 years. King Kong was a classic and it couldn't hold peoples attention so are they going to change this every 15 years? Same with Shreck. MGM Studios just does so much a better job in managing it's licenses, while creating unique rides that will be timeless.. IE Tower of Terror, Gruesome Makeup Show, Great Movie Ride (where segements can be updated) etc.

Um, the GG&G Make-Up Show is at USF. Scorpion King should NOT be made into an attraction. However, Mummy is a timeless movie as long as they don't strictly theme it to the new version. The Mummy has a rich history, but lately has been butchered. I'm still hoping it will be none of the themes mentioned.

Doh... i blew it! lol.. i always mix that show up... but you gte my point. I don't know I thought BTF was timeless, and it's fading.. King Kong is and was a classic, but the ride was horrid.. I personally hated the Mummy, so the ride doesn't appeal to me in anyway except for it's coaster values

The Mummy does NOT have a rich history. It was an alright movie and the sequel was pathetic. They just cashed in on the Rock and nothing else. When you talk about classic action movies you think of Indiana Jones, Terminator, or Die Hard...the the Mummy. It's a stupid license and would be an even dumber ride. They should really steer clear of quick money makers, when in the long run it will hurt them.

While the current THE MUMMY movies are not rich in history, THE MUMMY is franchise with a rather predominant history. The character sits alongside Dracula, Frankenstein, & The Wolfman in the world of classic monsters. And I believe, but I may be wrong here (my mind tends to play tricks on me), Imhotep is the name of the mummy character in both the new movies and the original Boris Karloff picture.

In addition, with the new movies, THE MUMMY is the most predominant and popular monster to choose from. Dracula & vampires go in and out way too much, there have been no good werewolve (let alone The Wolfman) movies since AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDAN and THE HOWLING, Frankenstein has been rather quiet of late, and no one has seen THE CREATURE ("from the Black Lagoon").

While, personnaly, I kind of hate to see KONG go (no, it was not a spectcular ride, it was fun and a very UNIQUE experience... especially in a world where the answer to everything is too quickly becoming "add a roller coaster"), maybe THE MUMMY is the best monster to replace him for a while. The character has had a movie in nearly every decade since its creation and is currently enjoying a wealth of success (honestly, not seen in the classic monster world since MAYBE, and I stress the MAYBE, "Brahm Stoker's Dracula" by Coppola).

Let's just hope the keep it temple and pyramid and monster themed and spare us all THE ROCK! (and at least minimize the Brendan Fraser).

Yes, Sephiroth certainly isn't aware of The Mummy's past...

I look at all the Universal Classics: Invisible Man, Frankenstein, Dracula, Mummy, Fly, Omen, Wolfman, Creature, and Phantom of the Opera which all I love dearly.

If I wanted to see one monster rise in this place, I would want it to be The Fly. Think about, the matter transportation could be the launch, followed by you as the fly flying around.

Another thing I'd like to see is a Ghostbusters coaster. Just think Kong replaced by the Saty-Puft Marshmellow Man...

Niether of those will never happen, but I thought I just throw that out.

Thanks for remembering the Universal Classic monsters I forgot. Invisible Man and The Phantom of The Opera .. I need to smack myself for forgetting about them ...

By the way ... just how much would anyone enjoy the end of THE MUMMY ride sporting a few bandage wraps being squashed under a giant black hairy ape foot??? What the hell, it'll look better than that ROCK/Scorpion monster from MUMMY RETURNS
