Universal Upgrades
Submitted By: ThmPrkCrtc on 3/20/2002 10:50:00 AM
Looks like USF and Islands of Adventure will both be getting new upgrades in the upcoming year.

The final go-ahead for the expansion plans depend on solid attendance in the first two quarters of this year, said Universal Orlando president Bob Gault.

Two attractions would be at Universal Studios, with one opening in spring 2003 and the other that summer, he said. The third planned attraction would be in Islands of Adventure.

If those plans go through, it would be the first time Universal Studios has opened two major attractions in the same year since 1992, spokesman Jim Canfield said.

Here are my predictions:
USF-
1. Apollo 13 or Scorpion King, it's a toss-up between these two, but USF should get a coaster.
2. A sit-down show, perhaps replacing Wild West Stunt Show, but most likely not.
IOA-
3. Jeep ride. I don't believe they will build simultaneous coasters at both parks.

I'm still betting on the B&M flyer for the Jurrasic Park area at IOA.. Another coaster really helps that place IMO. Lots of talk about Scorpion King replacing Kong.. I honestly think that's the wrong way.. Kong is a name known for ages.. I would have been happier to seen a brand new, reinvineted Kong... something like Spiderman in a Kong World could be interesting.

The last thing I heard was that the replacement for the Kong ride would use the mummy franchise rather than the scorpion king because it's more popular.
Fingers crossed for a JP flyer

The studios need a good coaster long before IOA. I to would like to see a new ride in IOA but would rather them expand the original perk which they haven~{!/~}t don in a wile.

Which they haven't done in awhile??? The last major addition at the resort was MIB! I would love something else at the Studios, infact I'd prefer it to get a ride over IOA getting one.

Universal is probably going to get Backdraft or Waterworld.... I think we should get a Fast n the Furious Launch Rollercoaster where your in the cars... If universal is trying to attract teens, which they are... they would defenitly get me there... just to walk though the Q line.... imagine some of the cars.... they could make it like the superman launch weightless coaster thing they have at six flags.. that would b fun.. make it a record breaker though..... Unviersal is gonna come up with something really cool... o and did you guys head bout the new show @ Universal Hollywood..... they get all the recent stuff... mummy maze and they are the park that truly advertises their movies....

Backdraft is too similar to Twister and Waterworld will NOT draw crowds. Fast and the Furious would be too similar to Rock 'n Roller Coaster. And as for the reverse free fall---not gonna happen. It would be an eye sore for a theme park.

Reverse free falls are O.K., nothing special. Fast and Furious would be a great idea...and my butt Waterworld is coming to USF they don't even want to think about that movie anymore. Scorpion King DEF won't come...the movie isn't even out yet. Unless they totally stay from the path, I would expect to see a movie ride that has been around for a while...

I agree waterworld is a bad idea but I'm not really sure about what kind of ride they should make. I kinda like the jurassic park idea, it would make sense condsidering all they have for the jurassic park portion of IOA is the water ride ,that stupid pteredacytl fliers ride and the VERY BORING vister's center a new ride for that section would boost its popularaty!!!
