Yea, but are they safe?

WebMD is asking the question are roller coasters safe (isnt everyone these days though)

Gary Slade, publisher and editor in chief of Amusement Today, a monthly trade newspaper for the amusement and water park industry, says the problem is overblown.

"I think its been a relatively quiet, normal year for the industry," he tells WebMD. "When you look at the total number of rides across the nation, at the total number of parks, total number of visitors to these parks, its mind-boggling how many people are riding rides and how safe they are. The numbers of people getting injured are far less than numbers getting killed on our nations highways, train derailments, plane accidents, and boating accidents."

Why are coasters getting so much negative publisity these days. I realize they are getting advancing technology allowing bigger and faster rides. However, the advancing technology allows for safer rides. So I really feel rides are safer than they used to be.

I fell people are way to paniced about coaster safty. It has become a proven fact that it is more dangerous riding in a car to a theme park than your day at the park.

roller coasters of course have had accidents- but so have planes and cars. every year new technology comes out for coasters and planes and cars to make it safer.

i think roller coasters are very safe. when they do crash(which is not very often), the media gets a hold of the story and blows it out of proportion and scares the people.
