The Scoop On Coaster Accidents

Ok, so the question that people have been asking, "Are amusement park mishaps up or down" at least thats the title of this article from USA Today. Pretty interesting reading.

"Its a matter of perception," says Rommes, chief of Floridas Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection. "Theres been such a huge amount of publicity over these (recent accidents) that people think more are happening" this summer.

In fact, there is some evidence that ride accidents have decreased this year. Other than the CPSCs periodic reports on ride-related injuries, the federal government does not track ride accidents. Neither do many states. But a spot-check of states that do keep detailed data on accidents finds the numbers declining.

I can't tell you if the accidents are going up or down, but I can tell you I never used to hear anything and now I seem to hear it on a monthly basis.

I think that amusemant parks are getting alot more media exposure these days. I also think that as rides get bigger and faster and run at the maximum capacity , the one in a million accident will probably tend to be more severe. Statistically

but then again, as rides get bigger and longer, they have a better chance of something bad happening!

well there are so many more coasters so the accidents will become more common but technology that allows for bigger and better coasters also means coasters are safer with more error detectors.
