Seems like something has changed around here? It's been a long time coming but the site has finally been relaunched with a fancy new look and a whole bunch of new code.
That said it's no where near close to complete. There's some features I didn't have time to get up and running before the relaunch such as the news archives and the review comments, but they'll be coming or revamped in the very near future.
Some changes that are in progress or that have already happened:
- The rating system is now on a 5 point scale. The 10 point scale was simply to broad and I wanted something where people had less choice and could really zero in on their thoughts about the ride.
- Users now have 50 megs of space in which to upload pictures.
- The FON will losing it's sanctuary as a place to flame and be abusive to members of the site. The site itself will be slowly migrating to a more strict policy in the way that members treat each other.
- Review comments are most likely going to be phased on in favor or a Digg type system where reviews can be given a thumbs up or thumbs down. The commenting on specific reviews I think caused more problems that good, and I'd prefer dicussions regarding rides and reviews actually be held in the forums. We'll be thinking over how that will work, but again, I would really like the site to become a more open accepting community.
- Secret New Feature #1 - after the site has been stablized and all the old features that are coming back are in, cool feature #1 will begin work... I think it's going to rock.
- Secret New Feature #2 - almost as cool, and I hope I can pull it off in the manner I have in mind.
- Secret New Feature #3 - long asked for, long awaited, and coming.. soon...
- The restoration of reviews and posts that were truncated or lost.
- The restoration of pictures that were posted or lost.
- Much much much more...
