May 15th US/IOA Trip Report –

The first thing I did when I entered the park was get my photo taken for my season pass, and boy that photo is awful.

Anyways, as usual the first thing I hit was the Hulk. It was it’s usual, great as always. I only got 4 rides in on it. Next was Spiderman, I gave Spidey 2 go around’s. I skipped Doctor Dooms since the line was nearing 50 minutes and I really wanted to ride Dueling Dragons. So I also skipped all the water rides and went straight for Fire. Fire still has that great pop of airtime on the drop, and was awesome as always. They were dueling them, so it was all good. I got 2 rides on Fire, 3 on Ice, bringing my Fire total to 112, and Ice to 88. While in line for Ice, I got the great idea to test out my new season pass and head to Universal. What helped make that decision was 2 things, 1) RotM might still be in Tech Rehearsal and 2) I haven’t been there in quite a while.

I arrived at the park shortly after 1pm and headed right to Terminator 2 3D. I have never been on this, and thought it was pretty cool. I next went to Back to the Future. Still a fun ride, and one that will always be fun. Next up was Jaws, which I haven’t been on in a very long time. It is not as fun as I once thought it was, but it’s still a pretty good ride. Next up was Earthquake, which is still a very good ride. The truck falling through still gets me. Time was running short, and I continued on through the park. I wasn’t sure that RotM was still open, so I didn’t bother to check. Well, after Earthquake I passed it and noticed people crowding around it. I went to see what it was and it was open. I felt like I died and went to heaven. I was not expecting to ride this until June sometime. I immediately chugged my cherry coke, and walked through the line fighting off my horrible brain freeze.

The line, the first time, was only 25min. Although the line is greatly themed, and is fun to walk through, it doesn’t quite beat Dueling Dragons. I talked with a few, rather stupid, tourists and waited to board the car. I sat in row 3 and prepared to start the ride. We turned off to the left and saw a few of those coffin things in this dark tomb. I heard the, can’t recall his name at the moment, guy say “Are you crazy? You have to get out of here….” And so on. You see Imhotep’s face on one of these coffins, he is talking, but I don’t remember what he said. You continue on through the tomb, see one of the walls glow gold and see some signs. There is just so much to look at, you can’t see it all in one or 2 rides. You pull up to a stop in a room with treasures on either side of you. You see Imhotep’s face appear on the wall in front of you. He says more stuff, but I don’t remember this part either. The mummies pop up on either side of you, which is pretty cool. Fire starts popping up in places, Imhotep talks some more and you continue your journey through the tomb. You pull up to another little room and stop, hard. The little beetles you may have seen in the 2 movies start appearing around you. You then are pulled backwards and go down a small drop into a turntable. You see his face follow you as you turn around and face the upward launch. You start going up; you once again see his face. He says, “Your souls are mine!” and you are launched uphill into him. At the top you get some great airtime and start going through the first part of the coaster. You see these signs all around as you go through the course. In this first part, there is another great spot of airtime. You pull up into what appears to be the loading station, but wait, it is not. He appears once again in the booth, and says we will not make it out. Fire screams across the roof ahead, and you are once again launched out into another great airtime drop. The second coaster part is not as long or as intense as the first part, but it’s still good. There are a few misty parts, which really add to the ride. You pull up to a talking Brendan Fraiser. He is happy that

Grrrrrr You're very lucky to live in Florida. I can't wait to ride ROTM in February - it sounds amazing. Glad you had fun.

I won't get to ride RoTM for at least of couple of years, more than likely. Oh well, I'd like to go to BGT at the same time to ride their new coaster, plus Shrek and Jimmy Neutron at Universal.

I wish AK's new coaster would open soon, but unfortunately it will be a couple more years.

Yeah, next time I go to Universal, which may be a while, I am going to ride Shrek.
