I’ve written quite a long trip report here as I usually do when I write trip reports. I appreciate you reading as much as possible, but I’ve bolded the rides, parks, and restaurants as I talk about them for your ease. The trip took place July 10-17 and included Holiday World, Indiana Beach, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Lake Winnie. At the bottom is a link to the best of the trip photos. Enjoy…

After a 14 hour drive up to Tell City, IN in the first day, the time zone confusion began to set in. Which clock do we go by? It was decided we should ignore the hotel and area clocks and go by “Holiday World time” and “Cedar Point time” for central and eastern. So, first up was the small Holiday World park. Word had been good from this park and the wooden coasters were supposed to be the best in the business. The gates opened roughly 30 minutes before the rides did at 10 AM (Holiday World Time). The tickets were very cheap due to a heavy discount for being in a coaster club. I think it came to a total of $30 something for two tickets. We entered into the Christmas part of Holiday World and veered towards the coasters.

The plan was: hit Raven, hit Legend, do the water park before it got crowded. It worked out very nicely. First was Raven, ranked the #1 wooden coaster in the world. We quickly discovered the recent accident had caused many of the attendants to be lap bar sticklers. Either way, we got the back row for a quick ride. The Raven was a good ride in my opinion, but not number one in the world. Airtime was very good all throughout, particularly the dip just before the S-curves. The length was a little short for its speed, but I suppose there’s a plus to that when you only run one train operation. A lower half top ten woodie, but it doesn’t make the overall top ten. Next was the Legend. The Legend was running one train operation early but moved to two trains within a couple hours. Having heard the front was the best row, we gave that one a try first thing. With that we left the station on to a fantastic ride. Wow. This is a coaster that has it all. It plows through tunnels and banked hills with pure power and throws you left, right, up, and down without hurting at all. The Legend even has a quasi-double Beast helix. It leaves you breathless all the way to the brakes. A top tier ride through and through. With that, the lines were looking long with all the early guests arriving. We decided to hit the Frightful Falls flume before heading to the waterpark. It was a simple flume with a tunnel and some small rapids. Hitchcock music was played over the speaker which was kind of cool. We didn’t get that wet but it was solid flume ride. So, we hopped over to the waterpark which opened at 11 AM.

While waiting a few minutes before it opened, I grabbed some free soda and sunscreen (for those who don’t know HW gives free Pepsi products and sunscreen with no catches unlimited). Once it opened, we headed straight for Zinga, the new half pipe slide. This structure looks extremely cartoonish and bizarre. It looks as if someone took a giant top from outside FAO Schwartz and tipped it on its side. We grabbed a heavy raft shaped like a four leaf clover and headed up the stairs. Once to the top of the tower, it was time for all that work to pay off. The ride was an enclosed tube at first. The journey was fairly short and emptied by means of a steep drop into the enormous half-pipe. Up one side up the other, what a blast. The water trough in the middle would slow the rafts with each pass until finally you got spit out the butt of this mammoth top. This is easily my favorite tube slide and one of my top water slides overall. Another ride, this time with me facing backward proved for an even more fun ride. Definitely an original idea that worked. It’s comparable in a way to the Storm just on its side and with a tube. The thing is, Zinga doesn’t half-drown you, which is generally a plus for most of us.
