I honestly think that someone at Paramount deserves to be dragged through the streets and shot for naming the flyer at Carowinds. Borg Assimilator- wtf. This name is absolutely awful. This just might be the worst name the industry has ever seen.

Alpengeist has to be one of the best names out there, it's very original. Even their other names like Loch Ness Monster and Big Bad Wolf, while simple, are great. Don't forget Drachen Fire either.

Ok ok, you win.

I also think Superman: The Escape is a stupid name. Where do you escape to? You just end up right back where you started (does that one have a historical reference? )

True - you do end up at the same place, and no I can not bring up a historical reference

I agree about the Busch Gardens names too. My favorite of their names would have to be... let me think... Apollo's Chariot! <-- (GREAT name)

I hate the name "Great Bear" at Hershey Park. It's not very "great", and with a name that contains bear you think it dashes off into the widerness. In fact, Hershypark is extremely cluttered. I don't understand the name.

Oh yeah - someone mentioned "X" as being a horrible name. The bad thing about it is that if you were talking to someone who didn't know about it they wouldn't associate it with a coaster. However, the idea was that it's like no coaster in the world, and the 4th dimension is like the "X" factor.

Not a coaster, but home to a couple of them, the worst park name has to be Big Chief Mount Olympus Theme Park. That's awful, lol.

Here's the explanation. The "Great Bear" is actually a named after a star constellation (Ursa Major) that contains 7 stars. The coaster contains 7 "thrill elements" and thus the tie-in with the "Great Bear".

Haven't you ever wondered why the logo is all stars?

Yeah but that's still so stupid. I mean come on - "thrill elements." The average visitor to a park knows only loops and corkscrews. They can't expect people to make that connection. Therefore, the name Great Bear is stupid. Plus, there are better things to name a coaster after than a constellation.

Then again, their mascot is a bear, so it's not that bad.

Well, you said you didn't understand it's name. I explained it.

No one is claiming it's a good name, just that once you know the background, it makes sense.

Okay whatever. Its still pretty dumb. Actually, as I think of it Hersheypark has some really boring coaster names (Wildcat, Sidewinder, Sooperdooperlooper). Actually, come to think of it they all suck. Storm Runner is a step up, but still ehh.

When it opened it might have been cool, because there weren't an abundance of looping coasters. Now its really stupid, and takes a while to say.

I love that name too! Its so cool to say. Sooperdooperlooper. And I like the way its spelled too. The only thing that doesn't make sense is that it only has 1 loop, so it doesn't really live up to its name as a "Sooperdooperlooper".

RC-48 is pretty dumb. I don't like when numbers are included in the names.

Again, just for the record RC-48 refers to the model number of the coaster. Similar to mouse coasters being called "Wild Mouse" or a Boomerang being called "Boomerang"

Like before, not saying it's a good name. Just passing the info along.

Hershey has terrible names. Most are overused, and the "Roller Soaker?" I know it was submitted but it's so dumb.

Thanks for agreeing. Heh. And I think Renegade would have been better than Storm Runner.

yeah, but renegade is a rap song by eminem and jay-z so it would annoy me to link the roller coaster to that song

Yeah, it reminds me of the days of good old coasters. I like that name, even though I didn't get to ride it yet.

I think Hershey's other ride names are pretty good. But Roller Soaker does sound dumb. It sounds like a kiddie ride for some reason.

BORG Assimilator? Ugh! There are PLENTY of better Star trek/Sci-fi names to borrow the "Borg Assimilator."

Naming a coaster after a super-hero isn't that bad, but I DO question why every coaster has to use either the Superman or Batman license. Doesn't Six Flags have a deal with DC comics? When is "Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet" going to come about, huh? Those sexist pigs. :-D

Also to be fair, most of the "Roller Coaster" names are on coasters that were really old, before they needed "clever" Gen-X codenames to sucker people into riding. Speaking of which...

What I REALLY hate is any coaster that spells an "E" word with an "X" (or just uses an "X" inapropriately.) Not only does this bother me as an English major, It's a blantant demostration of how condescending focus-group, synergized, marketing-commitee "youthspeak" buzzword thinking can be. Plus it reminds me of MARVEL comics in the mid-90s (a place much scarier then any theme ride, trust me.)

The ride with the worst name has to be Nude Viking, a pirate ship.

I kind of like Steel Venom, as well as the logo. As for as that site Red posted...OMG, be warned, its pretty rough! lol! And whats with stealing the Jurassic Park logo for everything? The park logo "Wonder Zone" is a mix of Disney and JP logo style, heh, And what does Wolverine or Tang have anything to do with it??? bleh...

I like it as well, it has a very creative name and logo.

I was asking myself that same question when I looked at the map. I don't think that park is affiliated with Disney or Universal. They could get into a lot of trouble if one of those companies find out that they're using their work without permission.
