What has happened to the boat rides at Geauga Lake? They aren't using them anymore. They put a bridge to get to the other side of the park in place of the boats. Why did they do this? Were they sold or sent to another park?

I'm not sure. but a guess is that with the lower attendance at this time there not needed. if Ohio is anything like NH you need a licenced boat pilot to operate an attraction like that. that costs allot more money and with Gas and such being up it's just not needed. I haven't heard anything about them removing them just not operating them this year. So maybe in the future they will be back. I personally like a Nice boat ride. It's a good after Dinner ride.

I think it would be a nicer attraction if they served dinner on it like the Good Time or Nautica.

I don't know the boat all that well. but it may not be a practical thing to do. but that Pier that they keep it at normally would make a good restaurant.

I was at Coaster EXT this past weekend and they said the boats were for sale.

Boats are very inefficient, and on busy days they may not be able to handle all of the crowds. A bridge is much cheaper.

From the front to the back of a 50 acre lake? A bridge can be cheaper but on a large lake a boat is allot easier. not to mention there a nice ride to relax on.

^ I was wondering the same Scott.

I also think it's ironic that mrc is in here at all, given the fact that he has never been to Geauga Lake at all.

So since I haven't been to the park and it's only a park I want to visit I can't comment on it?

Not to mention my first comment was regarding the cost of operating such an attraction and the difficulty of operating such and attraction around here and mentioning that it may be a contributing factor.

by the way I spell checked that last post. so it's fixed!

Thank you for fixing your post, and you are certainly allowed to comment in a thread on a park that you haven't been to...after all, you do so all the time. I just find it a bit ironic that you, as someone who hasn't been to the park and therefore hasn't seen first-hand the situation with the boats, lake, etc., are the #1 poster in this thread.

Like I said the first two were regarding the boats and offering up a local problem as a possible reason. It may not be right but it's possible. The rest of what I have said is going of of Photos, Trip reports, and park descriptions. For example the fact that the lake is 50 acres. that's from a CF news report from when they bought it.

One hope out of this being true is that my home park, Canobie lake, could buy it. they had a paddle wheeler. now they have a trough boat (low capacity, nothing special) and it was a fall back replacement.

The boats were very insufficient, yes. Nice, but not very productive.

Personally, I've always preferred the nice long walk across the lake.

The boats have been replaced with a shuttle service, which is split into two sections (walking or shuttle), aside Raging Wolf Bobs and the red house.

But they do have a shuttle bus if you don't care to walk? that's at lest a good thing.

The head rep of Geauga Lake (Bill) talked about things to come, and what's up for GL in the future at Coaster EXT and he said the boats are for sale, and expansion and new rides are based on income from park attendance. In my opinion if they want to make money enclose the water park and make it year round so people can swim and add a big steel coaster smaller than 200 feet. I think this would draw more people to the park. I prefer to walk myself but the boats we're a nice attraction.

I've been to Geauga a few times this summer so far, and two out of three of those visits the park was packed. Nice to see X - Flight with a 1.5 - 2.5 hour wait again. Well, not really, but it's so nice to see the park excelling healthfully once again. I think we'll see some good results from Geauga attendance this summer. I didn't get a single walk - on yesterday.

Oh, and that wasn't even Cleveland Clinic Saturday!

How's the park seem to you, Red? I assume you still work there...

Thanks for the info of wer eyou hear all that from. some peopel hear somthing from the dipn dots employee and think it's fact.

as for attandance I'm glad they were buisy. When parks change hands often peopel get skared away. I think the new prices are drawing allot of people.

Nope. I now work for General Motors making exactly triple of what I made working at GL (and yes, I'm fresh out of high school). I'll be visiting the park tomorrow for the first and only time this summer.

GM has some pretty mean wages. Glad to hear you got in... some people have alot of trouble it seems like, but once they do, there's lots of cash flowin' in.

The only way of getting in is having connections.

Not to sound self centered, I hope all of you on this site are doing well and accomplishing your goals and dreams, whatever they may be.

^^ reason why GM has huge debts. It's good that they respect their employees, but if they want to survive competition against companies from japan, they need to start making more fuel efficient cars, and cutting back. Anyhow...
