Tommorrow I'm planning on hitting up my home park Six Flags America. They have this deal where if you pay the price of a general admission at an area Safeway store you can get a season pass for free, which I plan on doing since I'm bound to be able to make it back there one day in the next 3 months. So anyway, I'm visiting my aunt up in Connecticut the week after the 4th of July, and a several years back she was telling me about her "home" park Riverside Park which, as we all know now goes by Six Flags New England, meaning I could go for free. I've heard so much about Superman Ride of Steel at New England (like it's a lot better than the one here), plus, I always enjoy visiting new parks, which it seems I have been doing less and less lately. I would do Great Adventure, but my mom and sister don't want to have an overnight stay on the road.

My aunt lives near the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos near Norwich CT. It's Eastern CT (I think), closer to Rhode Island than New York, so anyone think I should make the trip? How long would it be?

Also, if anyone has any experience with the roads in that area (between I-395 in CT and wherever the heck SFNE is) please tell me about them. Times to avoid, like Rush hours? Right Lane and Left Lane ends?

Thanks!

If you have never been to SFNE it's worth checking out. there are some repeated ride. like Mind Eraser but there are many you may not have been on. Superman is worth the trip if your in the area. but I personally would hit Lake Compounce since it's much closer and you have Boulderdash.

as forgetting to SFNE. all I know is you take 91 north (in CT) there are plenty of signs to point you to the park. you looking at 45 min to 1 hour.

Thanks

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I've never been so I should see it. I've heard it's better than the one here (it couldn't be any worse!), but I'm a very nervous driver when I'm in "unfamiliar territory", if we're driving up to CT, it's easy, just stay on I-95 until it's time to switch off, but it's exits and turns, off ramps, and merges that make me very nervous and that is my main concern. I've since looked at a map, and it looks like I'd be going through Hartford (blah) but I'd probably try to bypass it somehow. I live near Springfield VA, I know and love Springfield, but it's cities like Springfield that make me worried. If you've ever been there you'd know what I mean.

Never done SFNE or Lake Compounce so if you do and find it's worth the trip please report back (I'm a SFA & SFGAdv local too).
If $ is a factor in the SFGAdv decision, I've gotten decent rooms within a 1/2 hour on Priceline for $43 including taxes & fees. It takes a specific strategy, so post back if $ was a concern for an overnighter.

You'll find it's really easy. teh City isn't much of a city. a few Sky scrapers and thats it. it's more knows for the Basketball hall of fame then anything else.

Comoing North you won't even hit the city since the park is south of the city.

It's simple. Off my head it liek exit 5. you go over the Bridge you can see Superman to your left in th far distance. take the first exit. its a Roetry at the botom fallowit all the way around (second turn). go straight to the first bridge and take the exit. there is a signe sayign SFNE. at the botom of the Ramp turn right. that road gose straight to the park.

Mapquest normlay give good direction adn I can get more specific with If I get some help. but it's nto bad. You shodul try to hit the NE area for parks if you liek them but havn't been to many. SFNE, LAke Compounce, Canobie lake, and Funtown splashtown are are all the large parks. we have 7 other smaller scale parks.

they make for one hell of a vacation.

First off money is kind of a concern, but not really as much as "I want to get home, not spend another day out of the house" from my mom. Anyway, I visited Six Flags America today and got me a season pass, and there's a coupon in the book for 1/2 price admission for friends at ANY Six Flags park so I might treat my aunt and have her drive (since she knows the area better), and I did do mapquest, but I'd just rather have someone else drive through mystery land. I know I'm coming from the south, Hartford is my main concern. My reason for being so nervious (as mentioned) is a place near my house called Springfield, VA (not to be confused with Springfield, MA). Take this example:
On Old Keene Mill Road, upon entering Springfield...
the 2 lane (each way) road becomes 5 lanes each way almost immediatley. The right 2 lanes go to I-495/I-395, the next lane goes to I-95 south, the next lane (2nd from the left) goes through (on Old Keene Mill) as does the left one. To go to downtown Springfield (has a big mall, Best Buy, Home Depot ETC.), you must be in the 2nd lane from the left. That lane will split off, keep to the left. It will split off again, keep to the right, merging traffic from the interstate will create a lane, get in it. You see how hard that would be to someone that doesn't know the area?

Also, my main reason for this trip is because I will be 21 and want to visit Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, but I will have an extra day and the price of Admission to SFNE is right... FREE. And I will to a TR to it if I can find the time (this is happening one week after a trip to Orland)

Be sure to check out my TR to Six Flags America.

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Did I upset you in any way? I'm trying to help not take over. I woudl need to get help to give you directions that exact. I don't know them all that well myself I just go. I'm a visual driver when it comes to directions and I'm likely to look for a bue house not a street sign.

Foxwoods is amaving it's raiteed as one of the best casinos outthere. travil chanal raited it number 1 for private casinos in the world. it's a sight to behold. a huge casino just ploped in the middle of nowware. I havn't ever been to Mohegan.

ABR,
Is that what is known as the 'Mixing Bowl' that people complain about a lot?

I did a trip last August right after my bday consisting of an overnight bus trip from DC to NYC. Then I rented a car and drove from NYC to SFNE. It wasn't bad at all. And I feel like driving through Hartford was pretty easy (I took 91 though). Whenever you drive through an urban area, just keep looking for signs assuring you that you're still going North on I-95 for example. I live in Alexandria, VA and of course I'm very familiar w/ our beloved mixing bowl. I don't remember seeing anything anywhere close to that crazy up there. I came from the South and I never actually got to Springfield, MA. SFNE is right near the border in a pretty rural area. So don't sweat driving through Springfield, MA. You won't.

I did the park from 10 AM to about 3 PM then drove to Lake Compounce, got the discounted twilight rate and rode the amazing Boulder Dash 4 times. This was great for me, but I only ride coasters, not flats, water rides, etc. I doubt someone could ride everything at both parks in one day.

SFNE is def. worth the trip. S:ROS is the BEST coaster I've ever ridden. (Kumba's still my favorite though) It's got little in common with S:ROS at SFA. Mr. Six's Pandemonium is great too. Much, much better than an average Wild Mouse coaster. They have a good line up but steer clear of or at least be warned. Cyclone is ultra painful. Have fun!

Oh no I'm not upset. I'll probably visit the park on Sunday, that way there won't be too many cars on the road.

And yes, it's the mixing bowl.

Any time this part of year the park will be a little dead. Have a great time. I'm looking forward to your TR.

CoasterGlxy - you only ride coasters? no wonder you think LC is overrated. y You need to understand that many parks aren't fixated on coasters. Especially the classic ones like LC and Canobie. Sorry to rant but I just wanted to get that off my chest. you would have had a better time if you did more then 2 new coaster.

Ooops, on my last post I meant on A Sunday sorry for the confusion. Anyway, for my birthday my mom got me a room at Foxwoods Casino for Sunday Night, so I would not be going Sunday. I have two options:
1) Visit it on Saturday (when it will be crowded)
2) Visit it on Monday after checking out of the hotel (I'd probably be getting there around 1:00 or 2:00)

I haven't decided which one I'll be doing though. Seeing as how I can get in for just the $15 parking fee and avoid the $50 admission, I guess I can be satisified with just a couple hours there. as long as I can get on Batman and Superman I'll be satisfied.

In The long run your goign to come out even. If you can do an intire saterday even Crowded your likely to go on the same number of rides at you d in the 6-7 hours you'll be able to do on a monday. if it's this upcoming sater day there is a chance of light rain so Crowds shouldn't be that bad.

The water park pulls the people moe then the park and hot days are the ones to wory about.
