Going backwards on this mine train was a plus, but going forwards (in the front car) was just painful, the slanted helix is energetic and going backwards for the first time gives a good thrill because you dont know where you are going. But other than that it isnt that great. Some airtime kicks it up a notch.
How do you build a Mine Train Coaster in reverse? Leave it to SDC and Arrow to build it. Thunderation was constructed in 1993 to add a second coaster to the SDC lineup. The plan was to roll the train out of the station at a cozy speed that would give you time to enjoy the beauty of the Ozark Mountains. Before you knew it you were on your way to a large helix into a G-force tunnel and up the lift hill, giving you a fun run out and back to the station. The ride is enjoyable and the scenery is great. Oh, since the ride was designed in reverse, you can also ride in reverse on cars 3 and 6. Don’t miss the train .
This ride starts out slow and picks up speed on the down helix thats goes right in to a mine shaft. When you go into the down helix the inertia is so strong you are glue to the seat and cant move. That is the only part I liked. When the coaster got off the lift it drops again 80 feet, which is ok. It could of been alittle better if they could of made the drop bigger at the end. However it is the best "MINE TRAIN" coaster I have ridden.
This ride was alright. Not having a lift hill at the begining was cool but having one near the end with a short track after that wasnt very cool. I didnt go on the backwards cars but I bet that they would make the ride much more fun.
Thundaration was very nice. It was scary and suspenseful. It made you feel like you were going to fly out of it and made you get that on the edge feel.
It may just be me, but was the ride re-tracked for 2002?I rode it last year and that awesome helix that leads in to the tunnel led directly to the lift. This year, you fly out of the tunnel getting airtime do another tihgt helix and then go up th hill.I didn;t like it before the upgrade. It was just the helix that was fun.Now with the extra drop and helix it ROCKS!Be sure to ride it backwards because its much better thatn forwards.
A cool thing about this mine train coaster (and is the case with most rides at SDC) is that you can`t see any of the ride prior to boarding it. The design takes great advantage of a STEEP hillside it is perched on. Faster and more intense than I expected. Killer!
This has got to be one of the best mine trains...EVER! It is fast, intense, and could compare well to some non-mine train coasters. The spirals, turns and drops are all intense. Great ride.
P.S. Night rides are amazing!!!
Nice coaster for those who want the fun without the terror. Gives you that "gut" feeling a few times. As with all rides at SDC...NO LINES!!! (lots of old people visit there for the crafts and they dont ride the coasters)
got to be my favorite mine train. thats not saying much for me. this is nice ride , though
