Little outdated, but I like the ride itself. As a staple of Epcot, The ride is to be updated before the 25th Anniversary of Epcot Center. As far as I know, major maintenance will be preformed and a little updating, but the ride will remain the same. According to Disney, this is still the top All Day Attraction for new guests, and will continue to be. Only Illuminations beats the attendance record. You should ride this ride while it is still open, before the revamp, it is another Disney Classic.
Another one of Epcots educational attractions. You would think that Spaceship Earth would be a huge, thrilling ride, considering that its inside the main icon of Epcot. I mean, you learn enough in school, so why do u have to learn here? It should be replaced with a roller coaster or another thrilling ride that Epcot needs.
I remember when the park first opened and the sphere was then, as now, the dominant symbol for EPCOT in Disney-semiotics (anybody actually remember what EPCOT stands for? "Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow." Reality turned out a lot different that what ol Walt was envisioning, eh?). Anyhow, in a recent visit, I noticed that the lines for this one were all but evaporated. So, on a whim, some of my friends and I went on it, not having ridden it in probably over 10 years. Whoever called it "somber" was pretty dead on. Its really got very little going for it. The take on history is amusingly skewed (I think this was an AT&T ride or something, or some big communications company, I dont remember), the AA dioramas were definitely showing their age (although probably owing to the fact that they dont move around much, they still looked darned good), and the speaker system was, um, kind of inadequate. And yet some little hokey nostalgic part of me cant bring me to give it less than a 5. I remember the unjaded wonder with which I gawped at the idyllic replay of history (I still remember the tip of the hat to DaVinci). There were a few changes too, owing I think to the fact that the corporate sponsorship had changed in the interim, but theres not a whole lot you can do with those installations. So, a roller coaster you say? Excellent. Times change and theres plenty more hokiness out there to make up the difference. Hey, wasnt this ride supposed to have been "solar powered?"
Space Ship Earth is very nicely decorated geosphere. It has a ride inside that is average speed, fun, rerideable, it has a large capacity, and a long duration.
time 4 a nap?? go to this "so called" attraction. it needs an update
It was fun...sort of. But hey it always has a short line...who can beat that!
This is the best ride at Epcot, despite the old animatronics. Its educational and I found it to be very interesting. Hopefully it will not be replaced by a thrill ride anytime soon.
Geez, this is unbelievably somber. The music, the narration, everything about the ride is Deathly Serious. Really odd, for one thats supposedly about the uplifting (literally, in the case of this ride) progress of communication and technology. Some interesting stuff, a few neat moments, and the geodesic sphere that houses it is impressive, but would be better if it lightened up a tad.
This is the most popular attraction in the Disney World resort (at least it was in 96.) More people pass through it than any other attraction. My question... What gives?
This is a very long ride (with a very long line) I thought it was interesting (in an educational sort of way) but just not thrilling. Another thing I dont like about it is that when I was on it, they had to stop it several times for a handicapped person. It kind of ruined the experience.
Boaring, but hey its a classic, and it is in the coolest structure.
