I dont really like carousels, as I think theyre boring, but boy does this one get an exception. Wonderful music, beautifully carved horses, and best of all, the brass ring machine. Having the opportunity to catch a brass rind while youre spinning around really fast is great. Byt once I hit my hand on the machine, so word of advice, dont stretch your hand out TOO far. The machine is like a little metal thing that the people fill with the rings, then they push it out and it lets you pull the small rings, but you have to throw them back into the lions mouth (if you can actually aim that well) after they pull the machine back in. The floor of the carousel is carpeted, which is great, and the whole thing is just so wonderful. Only the outside horses get the opportunity to catch the rings, the inside ones move up and down. But anyway this is hands-down the best carousel EVER.
This carousel was excellent. I have ridden 40 carousels in 15 states and this is by far the best. The Frati organ is much better than the other two organs.
Knoebels Grand Carousel is a marvel and by far the best carousel I have ever been on. Located in the middle of the park surrounded by trees, the Grand Carousel sits in a wonderful pavilion. Because of its high capacity, the Grand Carousel is generally a walk-on. Wait for the outside horses because they are the ones where you can lean out and grab rings. There are many horses and they are all beautiful and hand-crafted. Also, their band organ is flawless and the best one I have ever heard on a carousel. Once the ride began, you got a long ride. The outside horses dont go up and down because you instead can lean out and try grabbing rings. The chance to grab the brass ring was fun because it gave you a fun challenge during the ride. At the end of the ride you can throw brass rings into a lions mouth as you ride by. Its a fun opportunity and it can be tough because the carousel is still rotating as you throw them usually. Overall, this is the best carousel I have ever been on. I highly recommend this ride for everyone, especially carousel lovers. However, I do recommend children riding on the inside horses, instead of the outside ones because the inside ones go up and down.
The best Carousel, period. Every park need a Carousel, preferably a good one, and Knoebels has a true gem reffered to as the Grand Carousel. The carvings are wonderful, the painting is awesome and the ride is well-kept. They run it fast, much faster than the one youd find at a corporate park, and they run it right. The brass ring is a great homage to the golden years of the industry, and the Wurlitzer was wonderful as well. I cant think of anything bad other than the typical "I wish my homepark had one".
I hadnt ridden a carousel in many years but I really enjoyed this. Its in beautiful shape and the music sounds wonderful. I also love being able to try getting the brass rings. A definite Knoebels treasure.
This one was big, beautiful and it has brass rings. Its alot of fun also. It is also fun, rerideable, long duration, and has a large capacity.
my apologies, I thought I reviewed it when I rode in September with my neice. Well Im tone deaf, but the music still sounds great. As everyone says grabbing the rings really adds to the ride. I refrained from taking a ring as a souvenir feeling it would be disrespectful for such a finely maintained masterpiece. Sort of like Bobby Brady taking the tiki doll from the cave in Hawaii.
This was my very first ride when I first started going to Knobles. It has maintained its charm and appearance over the years since I first rode it. I have been on several other Carousels, including the one at Six Flags Over Texas and the one at Knobles has All the original machinery, organ and Brass Ring still in operation. You just cant ride a Carousel with "Boxed Music" It has to be Live Organ Music!
It has been said that if the rollercoaster is the heart of a park, the carousel is its soul. If thats true, then this ride exemplifies this statement. Simply put, the best maintained and run carousel PERIOD. This four abreast ride is a true trip into the past, with the ride operator collecting tickets during the warm up (from the king horse, if you can even distinguish it!), and the ring machine operated without consideration of insurance premiums. The Carmel horses are superb, from the intricate carvings on the manes of the "star gazers" right down to the detail on the saddles. And no carousel can be complete without a finely tuned band organ, this one having more then one! Even if Knoebels didnt have the Phoenix, Twister, Skooters or Flyers, this ride alone is worth a trip to the park from any distance.
Im not usually one for carousels but this was simply great. The brass rings just added such an amazing quality to the ride. Also have to appreciate the organ music, something not seen much now-a-days
