A very nice carousel; the horses are well-maintained but the rounding boards could stand to be cleaned. The band organ is lovely and really does add to the ride. This is a good option to ride with the family.

If you like carousels you must go on this. Every park has to have one. Canobies is great because its such a historic ride. The non-horses are cool you dont see that on all carousels.

Canobies Antique Carousel is a real treat. With an excellent location at the front of the park, this beauty is very well-kept. All of the wooden horses are in unbelievable condition and it has an incredible band organ that might be the best that I have heard at an amusement park. At night the ride looks even better thanks to the glorious light package. This generally is a walk-on thanks to its high capacity. Canobie gives a very long cycle (usually at least 5 minutes, but usually a little longer). My only real gripe about the Antique Carousel is how compared to other carousels, how few horses move. It would be fine if there was a brass ring to grab like on Knoebels Grand Carousel, but on a regular carousel like this, I look for that. Still, the horses that due move have very good movement. This is truely a gem of a carousel.

This ride is lacking in atmosphere. While the horses and the band organ are as old as the park itself, the mechanism doent appear to be. Its too utilitarian. The poles are plain, the platforms carpeted, and theres an absence of hand-painted pannels essential to early 20th century machines. Also the horses are painted in colors too bright to be the original scheme. The rides in excellent condition, which is great. However it doesnt have the feel of a classic carousel, but of a gaudy carnival machine. I will end on a good note: the op gave us an extra-long ride cycle (10 minutes) as there was no one waiting in line.

APPEARANCE: This carousel is an absolute beauty. All of the hand-carved, wooden horses look great and complimenting them are an incredible band organ with booming music. Also, the lights at night are spectacular as well.

WAIT TIME: Walk On- Never have I seen a carousel with a wait. This trend stays true at Canobie.

RIDE: It wasnt as good as other classic carousels in my opinion. The only gripe I have with the ride is the lack of movement of the horses. That really ruins my pleasure on these rides unless theres a brass ring to catch like at Knoebels. The cycle was long though.

FINAL VERDICT: Oh, its an absolute beauty and a fan of traditional carousels should definitely ride this. If the horses moved up and down this easily would have been a 10.

Very nice and well kept carousel. It sit predominately at the front of the park, and its well tuned band organ lures you into the park and to the ride. The horses were in very good shape, kept well and touched up where needed, and they rode well, with no jaring that I could feel. The machine itself is very simply decorated with simple floral wood carvings and simple paintings on the rounding boards. It is also lit as a true carousel with all white lights, most of which worked. The only thing lacking in this ride is a ring catch.

Congrats Canobie on keeping up tradition. Nice carousel with an organ. It all still runs and draws riders. What else can one say?
