Its an outdated but still okay rollercoaster. Atleast it doesnt throw you upside in loops. I always hate that.
By far my favorite mine train. the theming on this ride is so good that it just destroys all of the competition.
Date Ridden: Once many years ago and once on 1-1-2008. Times Ridden: 2 obviously. As I continued my theme of reviewing Disney rides since I have visted both Florida and California parks since Halloween, I found myself forgetting about both Thunder Mountain rides. BTM is a very fun family oriented mine train style of ride which is extremely long. I would guess its signature element would be its numerous lift hills (3 I believe) which continually give the train momentum to meander through its course. I have found that with the trains being so long, the back is a much more exciting ride. When on the front, sometimes the train will be all the way over a hill before it gathers up any speed at all. Most mine rains for me get 6s but once again "The Disney Attention to Detail" gets a 1 point bump. Also, on this version we rode it a 1:00 AM on January 1st which was a total hoot. Big Thunder Mountain is just another solid, well-planned, and superbly themed family attraction. Dont forget to use the Fast Pass system and enjoy!!
One of the best rides ever built and for once WDW got a solid version of a Disneyland attraction. This ride has amazing details and on-ride theming. It is far superior to Everest.
Not nearly as good as Californias. The mountain as always looks great, but this one was just so much slower and as a result the helixes had no forces whatsoever. There were a few sudden drops though and the ride was pretty long.
Again as most of the rides in this park age, there will be better editions at newer parks. As with POTC, Disneyland Paris has a better version of this ride. But, what a ride this is. It combines all the thrills of a rollercoaster, with your head just missing the entrances to tunnels and fast sections of the ride, with the great disney themeing we all love. The attention to detail is amazing. Especially at the scene where you find yourself flying through the small town of Thunder Mesa. Overall a great ride but Paris, understanably, does this ride better.
Big Thunder is one of my favorites at the Magic Kingdom park. This was probably the second "roller coaster" I ever road (after Space Mountain that is). I loved it then and I love it now.
Big Thunder (along with Space Mountain) is a great "training coaster". Really good to get ready to ride the big ones like The Hulk and Dueling Dragons. The atmosphere is really good. I love the "old rickety mine" theme. The zig zaggity bumpy tracks give it a delightful "it could break and fall off the track at any moment" feel. Its short but sweet.
Thats the only problem with Thunder Mountain... its too short. I get on and before I know it... its the end. It makes me want more. Thats the only reason I dont give this a 10. Nit picky sure, but still...
Is it worth waiting over an hour? Not at all. Its way too short. Get a fast pass for sure or go at a time when the line doesnt exceed 20 minutes.
Will the kids like it? Like I said, its a great ride for introducing roller coasters so yes, I think they should. Definitely take them on this before riding Space Mountain which is longer and more intense.
I give this ride a 9 out of 10.
The theming of this coaster kind of confused me, it was weird the ride isalso pretty short and bumpy not worth the long lines it usually has
Fun classic ride. Fun for the whole family. COOL
Great underrated ride! I love the themeing on this ride. Even though its not thrilling its still a great ride and its really good after dark.
