Man this is awesome as hell. The blast into the turn is awesome. I know exactly where it blasts so its not a big surprise but it feels great and totally intense. Always ride the front seat. Nice view in the air. The inversions are great. Might not be a very diverse design for a coaster but its extremely intense and fun. Very fast too. Technically Apollos Chariot goes faster but Volcano definitely feels faster and more intense.

Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it!!! FIrst going into to the whole area and seeing this big huge Volcano just makes you want to walk straight into line. So while you are waiting in line the queue swerves in and out of the volcano and into this hut hanging off of the volcano. Then you go back into the volcano and see the coaster itself. After waiting another 5 mins. you are at the gates and listening to an African lady telling you to "discard all loose articles." (I didnt know Africans could speak such good English). Anyways your strapped in and finally are riding this fantastic ride. So you turn out of the station and you immiediately shoot off out of the volcano and go back in. Next, you are catapulted straight up and do a backflip out of the volcano. The worst is over. Or is it? Now you coast around the volcano doing three barrel rolls. you are gaining speed and you finally are at the pleasurable end where you speed down the final 80 foot drop into a brake run.
This ride is worth waiting almost 2 hours for. It is truly spectacular.Go out to PKD to ride this beast.

Unless you get to it within the first hour of the park opening, chances are, youre gonna have over an hour wait. Anyway, you go into a turn into the dark slowly. Some guy who sounds like a robot on the speakers starts talking and it sounds pretty creepy and out of nowhere you just blast off and start screaming in the dark. Fly out of the tunnel and into a highly explosive stomach churning experience of pure thrill and fun.

Yet another redo of my Volcano review:

Volcano is still my favorite coaster after 40 for a couple of reasons. One is that it is just really good, and the other is that it does have sentimental value to me. It was my first of what I would call "extreme" coasters for me, after I went on it in 2001. Back then, probably the most intense ride I had been on was Batman the Ride. After this, I was totally sold on roller coasters and couldnt wait to go ride more, and had no inhibitions.

So enough of my story, heres my review:

Volcano is well themed. The queue line starts walking through the Volcanos structure itself. Its themed around an "expedition" into the Volcano. You will find boats, shields, and even skeletons as themeing. The park used to play a good (but annoying) soundtrack in the line, but they seem to have gotten rid of it as of 2006.

The line moves quickly and then you finally arrive in the station ready to get "blasted." The train begins inching its way out of the station. All of a sudden, you are catapulted from a slow speed to 70 miles an hour in seconds. Simply one of the best launches you will find. Whats better is that you maintain this speed for quit a while after the train maneuvers around a strait away and a turn before actually going up out of the Volcano. This is really one of my favorite parts on any roller coaster. So much speed unleashed for such a long time. Then, a second launch kicks in, and the train goes STRAIT UP and out of the Volcano. This part of the ride seems to go quickly and unnoticeably, but it is pretty cool to be going strait up. And that first inversion is really intense. The train then looses a bit of speed, but the riders suddenly find themselves 150 feet above the ground! A series of turns and heartline rolls follow. Dont get me wrong, these are great elements, but it is kind of a let down compared to the rest of the ride. The heartlines are a great, tight motion, and they are fairly intense. The turns are solid too. What gets me is that all these motions are so darn comfortable. The ride really becomes an ace again with the final heartline roll transitioning into the drop! The train seems to pick up speed for the climactic finale, and to me its just a great end to the ride.

I really like Volcano a lot for a lot of reasons: Speed, launches, elements, uniqueness, and intensity. The beginning and end to this coaster really are great. I know there are better rides out there, so I wont give it a ten, but for now, Volcano is tops on my list.

This shot right to the top of my list for most "over-rated" coaster. There is no denying that the launch is alot of fun. There is also no denying that the volcano setting is amazing. Watching the fire burn at the top is pretty cool. But after the launch the ride really dies off. It has three of the slowest most boring barrell-rolls ever. It just goes around the volcano in circles and then is done. It was as if they concentrated so hard on the launch that they forgot about the rest of the ride. There is so much potential with this thing but it isnt fully realized. The overall best aspect of the ride is the launch but even the effects of that is reduced with all the launch coasters out there. Perhaps had I ridden this a few years ago, this would hold a better spot to me, but with all the other coasters, this is lost in the mess.

the theming going on here is totally goofy and i love it. they are so cornball down there at PKD. of course the queue looks like a long winding tiki hut. but i think they shouldnt stop there. what if they imported some authentic natives from papua new guinea or borneo to be ride ops? before every ride the native ride ops could chant an invocation to the volcano coaster god or something. that would be some tight theming!! themes can really bugger a ride for me personally, but i was really in the mood to get shot upsidedown out of that paper mache volcano that day. the ride itself is a pretty sweet one, and i dont know why people dis it. it is a very powerful launch. while you advance to the front of the line, you can see the train leave the loading position and creep around the bend, into the mountain. just as its about to go out of sight, it squirts right propmtly into that launch, looking quite like a cartoon, only instead of leaving a cloud of dust where it once stood, it leaves behind a residue of screams emanating from somewhere within the bowels of the ride. its a very nice thing to muse over while you wait. once situated in the front seat, i forgot to get a nice deep breath before launching, and i definitely felt like i was gonna die from asphyxiation going through that long tunnel. but it was a good kind of asphyxiation, like if i died then it would have been a fine death. the rocket straight up and out of the volcano is beautiful. a totally unforgettable first half of the ride. i guess as others have said the ride peeters out somewhat as it winds around the top of the volcano. the inversions ARE really fun, though. they could have used the height and speed to a better use, the ride could have been longer and had perhaps another surprise or two, but im not going to be a hater. it gets an 8 for the cheesed-out goof theming and rad launch/inversion.

Volcano is easily the the best coaster in the park. The double launches are great for a speed lover like myself. Definitely ride it while at PKD. Along with a great ride, the wait isnt that bad.

I was there the first day this ride opened in the summer of 98. The launch at the beginning is one of the most amazing coaster experiences Ive ever witnessed. The acceleration is so raw and powerful (so much more so than Flight of Fear for some reason). Anyway, its indescribable how cool that feels. Unfortunately, the rest of the ride is good but not great. On the back side of the volcano theres plenty of speed for a cobra roll or something more than just a banked turn back into the mountain. The climb up and out of the top is really cool, but the inversions following are a bit mediocre. Youre pretty high up there and one of the inversions makes you think you just missed hiting the mountain, not bad but nothing too spectacular. Ive gotta give PKD some credit though it is a very unique coaster and theming is a step forward for this park, I just wish they wouldve done a litle more with it. I envisioned the track going through the mountain more, similar to how Montu spends time flying through those canyons. Final Rating - 8.5 (Great-Approaching Excellent)

Ok, this is definitely a world-class state of the art, revolutionary, whatever-you-want-to-call-it, coaster. First of all, the volcano itself is very lifelike in the fact that you can literally feel its eruptive fire from the queue below. Wow! Now that is what I call an appetizer. Adrenaline definitely starts pumping as you enter the station. You sense a subterranean type feel as you seem even lower than the ground. This is an Intamin, so dont expect B & M style trains which are 4 abreast, these are only 2. Now, lets get to it. After the train is clear for dispatch, the train starts rolling forward and around a corner almost out of sight from those in the station and then BLAST!!! You are shot to a max speed of 70 mph zooming around and through the volcano making this ride seem out of control. While in the dark, you hit a straight piece of track and Blast!!! You are shot up vertically 90 Degrees to the sky into the best inversion in the world in my opinion. It is followed very closely by a blast of fire which actually sprays you with a light mist. You then circle the top of the volcano with a series of barrel rolls adding to the disorienting feel of not knowing which way to turn or that you are turning. Now, for the finish. You dive back into the volcano and spiral downward into one of the most intense series of helixes on an Intamin, IMO. Then the brakes slow the train and you are wanting to go again. Definitely a top 5 coaster that cant be missed.
