Remember that insane video of the insane German top spin with 107 flips? This is the junior version of that and even though I havent been on all of them, I can confidently say that this is by far the best US top spin. This is one of those rides that depends on the ops that are running it and these can be extremely intense rides in the hands of the right op. And you know what Coney Island has. Insane Ops! Commonly I experience at least 30 flips on this and on a slow summer day last year I got probably over 50 (I lost track after 40)! Once they get this flipping, your at the mercy of the op because it might be a while before you stop. Obviously they run this for a very long cycle as well in order to get all of those flips. After I come off this ride, I always am extremely disoriented and always fall victim to the intensity of this ride.

I always hear praise for Astrolands Break Dance having an insane cycle, but this topped it. First off, the restraints werent as tight as those on other top spins, which created an opertunity for an insane ride. Well, the cycle was absolutely crazy, as my ride lasted 3 minutes and while I didnt count, I think that I got at least 20 flips a ride on average, but there was one I think I got at least 30! There were some points where I got 8 or so flips in a row. All of the flips were very fast and pinned me to my seat and there were even portions that had me staring at the ground falling into the restraint, and the ride was just flat out great.

This Huss "Top Spin 2" was a bit less intense than I thought it would be but still better than many Top Spins Ive been on. We kind of didnt get a the full cycle that includes a lengthy portion devoted to just swaying the gondola back and forth, teasing it into a flip every now and then. Ive also seen a video where the ride-op flipped the gondola some 14 times in a row which is a real testament to the level of insanity that this ride can potentially reach. Instead the ride did a few loops with some great hang time and then the ride-op pulled off about 5 consecutive flips. The flips were the most forceful Ive ever encountered on a Top Spin. The colors on this TS are like tye-dye, which is much nicer than some others Ive seen. This particular Top Spin gets some extra percentage points for having a custom backdrop. The backdrop features an airbrushed Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off among other things. Ill make sure to ride this again come summer to see what a full fledged cycle is like.

EDIT: I went on the Top Spin again and I got a completely different type of cycle this time around. Before going on I watched it first; while watching Id hear people around me "whoa..." in unison during a particularly nasty set of flips. The ride experience itself was really just out of control swinging with the brakes never being fully applied. Occasionally the gondola would flip over while we were being unmercelessly spun. On a few occasions the gondola would come over the top facing downward and continue facing downward as it approached the loading platform. The visual was that of a large orange platform with the words "Top Spin" written on it rushing toward us before we swung backwards. There were a lot of moments where I was even pulled up off the seat as the gondola whipped over the top rightsideup; they had those arms going so fast! At points I had to close my eyes in order to not get too dizzy, which works for me. But if I felt the gondola shift in a weird in a weird way I would immidiatly open my eyes to see what type of wild, twisted scene Id see. Of course, as the ride ops last hurrah, we got about 6 fast backward flips before ending. All I can really remember from the ride was seeing flashes of ground, an orange platform, blurs of lights, and Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off...and yes I was conscious the whole time lol. Ill have to pump this up from 9 to 10; that was one wild ride.

Ok, finally something nearly made me sick. Loved it! Unlike every other Top Spin Ive known, men dont seem to describe this as a Vasectomy Machine, and the restraints didnt come down nearly as tight. I only feared for my life a little, my stomach a little more. It was marvelous not knowing what cycle or how many flips to expect, or know how long the thing would go. Many revolutions and many flips, and water that actually got you wet on a hot day (still a point of contention with my husband, who thinks my shirt should stay dry). But at points I DID have to focus on the mirror on the back of the seat in front of me for fear of regurgitation - that hasnt happened before. I cant exactly call the Coney ride ops sadists, but they are certainly a little twisted, and I love them all for it!
UPDATE: A year later, it didnt make me sick. It was great, counted as many as 8 flips in a row, but didnt feel sick. Rode it twice, and each time as it started moving and putting our weight on the restraints, I felt mine give a quarter or a half an inch. The first ride it generated some concern as I wondered exactly what would happen it I landed on my head or face, but apparently there wasnt really any danger. Still the best example of the ride. Water spouts werent working during my visit - that was disappointing.

By far the best example of this type of ride Ive been on, as well as now one of my top flats period. The ride ops really made this. We got an amazing amount of time on the ride with numerous flips and swings. And the rush of water fountains straight up your nose on a hot day just cant be beat. Kudos to the ride ops at Astroland.
