 Review of Whirlwind @ Knoebels

The "Whirlwind" was my first coaster with upsidedown elements so of course its important to me. A Vekoma designed ride, its famous for its seperated corkscrew elements and Tom Hanks rode it in the movie "BIG" However, I really hope Knoebels considers something better than this !!! Its VERY short, yet is the only coaster with any type of inversion in the park. Perhaps a B&M custom designed standup, or floorless would be fun

I realize that the post above was from 2001, but there were quite a few of them back in 01. Most of the Whirlwinds were built in the 1980s. Right now there have been 13 built, and there are 6 operating. And now there are plans for a new coaster yay! By the way, was this the exact coaster that was in the movie or another Whirlwind model?

RE: Tom Hanks riding Whirlwind in "BIG": According to IMDB, BIG was released in 1988 and one of the filming locations was Rye Playland, Rye, NY. Before being bought by Knoebels, Whirlwinds home was Rye Playland. RCDB lists its dates there as 1984-1992. So... Yes... the coaster was the same Whirlwind, but at a different location. Its current location is in Costa Rica at "Parque de Diversiones Dr. Roberto Ortiz Brenes", a park run by the Costa Rican National Childrens Hospital (a park whos proceedes all go to the hospital).

Oh, I thought that BIG was made in the late 90s. Ive also seen some cool pictures of the Whirlwind down at Parque de Diversiones, Ill have to hunt down that website. The park look really clean and purdy.
