Review of Mission Tortilla Factory @ California Adventure

It is interesting to me that the Mission Tortilla Factory has a higher rating than the Boudin Bakery Tour, as this one is far less detailed and entertaining than that one. The tortilla factory begins with a pre-show room where children sing the praises of corn (!), then empties into a small room where projected images show old-fashioned tortilla making. Guests wander into the main factory room next, where modern high-tech machines show how tortillas are made today. One machine is for corn tortillas, while another is for flour tortillas (and I have found that both rarely operate together). There are small signs that explain the various parts of the machine, but no real explanation other than that (the employees do encourage questions though). The highlight is of course the free tortilla at the end. I am not normally a huge tortilla fan, but these warm fresh ones sure are good. There is a demonstration table at the end of the factory with suggestions on how to prepare assorted culinary creations with tortillas, but I have never seen anyone getting to make anything with their own tortilla sample. All in all, this is reasonably interesting, but head across the street afterwards to the bakery tour for a similar attraction that is better executed for a theme park. I have no idea what will become of either of these attractions during the renovation of California Adventure. They seem like very minor attractions that could easily be replaced, especially since they do not really seem to fit the direction the new park will be heading. But I have not heard any indication of this. We will have to wait and see I guess.
