Review of Looping Star @ Beech Bend

Spring (or maybe on into the summer....I dont remember exactly) of 2006. Times Ridden: 1 On our trip through Kentucky/Indiana, Beech Bend was our first stop and a very pleasant surprise. Parking was free, food cheap, the Rumbler was new (review forthcoming later today), mini-golf was free, but alas the other three coasters are absolutely horrid. The Looping Star was no exception. Early in the day after riding the KR, we walked by this ride and there was a maintenance truck parked in front with a mechanic laying in under the ride. That is not good. As the day progressed (and we did find enough to do to amuse ourselves for about 4 hours) the ride was "fixed" and running. We got in line and immediately noticed a few things. First, the back two seats of the train were roped off. The op said that the train was having difficulty making the loop if too much weight was present. Not good again. We also noticed that as the train progressed along the course, the entire track was shaking violently. While I understand that a little give is necessary in supports to make them stronger, I don;t think the amount of shaking on the Looping Star was what the physicists who discovered this principle had in mind. Not good for the 3rd time. Ok how about our ride? Very scary. I felt that at any point this thing could collapse leading to a very high fright factor. It was not comfortable on either my back, legs or neck and I could definitley feel it when I got off the ride. So why a 5 and not a lower score? The loop baby, the loop. This thing has gotten blasted on here (and for the most part correctly) but the loop on this ride had some totally insane forces. It is so small and so quick that you are completely pinned back into your seat. You can also actually feel the track shaking as you exit the loop which can either be a good thing or bad depending on your view. Although this is definitely not a good ride, give it a whirl when out at BB. Its not comfortable, looks like it is about to collapse, has many carny type elements, and will leave you sore for a couple of days. But what the heck, ride it anyway, go through the insane loop that makes you feel as if you are going to lose your life, and then go play some mini-golf. Thats what theme parks are about, right?
